Principal Clerk - Bookkeeper

Currently announcing a vacancy for a principal clerk-bookkeeper in the Business Division - Membership Department.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of a management employee or their designee, performs bookkeeping and other related clerical work requiring a thorough knowledge of the Association rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, and the frequent exercise of independent judgment.

Essential Functions
  1. Posts membership data for assigned locals.
  2. Makes appropriate changes in employer locations and coordinates changes with the special mail system.
  3. Reconciles accounts and verifies the accuracy of data with appropriate payroll office, membership chair, or regional office.
  4. Reviews and reconciles monthly dues bill with Membership Specialist.
  5. Provides troubleshooting and training assistance to Membership Processing Clerks.
  6. Maintains necessary membership records and files.
  7. Answers questions from leaders, members, and other staff pertaining to membership data and information.
  8. Works with specific locals on special needs and projects.
  9. Prepares necessary reports, as needed.
  10. Other related duties.
Qualifications, Training and Experience

An advanced degree in accounting is preferred. Graduation from high school or possession of an approved high school equivalency certificate is required. A minimum of two years' experience working with accounts receivable. Excellent computer skills, knowledge and experience with automated accounting systems and membership system.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of automated systems, particularly, Microsoft office products, Word, Excel, and E-Mail.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern office routines, procedures, methods, equipment, and machines and bookkeeping procedures, methods, and devices and their proper application.
  • Thorough knowledge of automated membership software.
  • Strong communications and grammatical skills using the English language. Possess organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand, review and check various types of financial data and review their accuracy.
  • Ability to balance general and subsidiary ledgers. Ability to maintain necessary records and files.
Salary & Benefits

Starting Salary: $49,150
