Job description

Barista

If you love coffee, books, and mornings that feel like a warm hug, come join our Barista team at Anaïs Coffee!

We're opening inside Edison Square, a beautifully restored 1919 theatre and event venue in Tacoma — and we'll have doors open by mid-July. Anaïs Coffee is a cozy, bookish daytime café built for people who want a slow morning, a good book, and a drink someone actually cared about making. We believe coffee is simply the excuse — the real point is making every guest feel welcomed and known.

Because we share this space with Edison Square's events, you're not just running a register — you're the host. Whether it's a regular grabbing a drip coffee before work, a family settled in with their kids, or a stranger wandering in from something happening in the building, it's on you to make sure every single person in that room feels like they belong there. Think less "barista," more "the person who makes the whole room feel like it's theirs."

We're a brand-new, family-owned shop (hi, we're Jay & Kaja!) hiring our very first team of baristas to help bring this place to life. We're ramping up hiring over the next two weeks, so if this sounds like you, don't wait to apply.

We are currently looking for a part-time Barista to join the team! This is a great fit if you're a student — we're open mornings only, Monday–Saturday, and closed every Sunday, so there are no late nights and no Sunday shifts to fight with your class schedule.

Some of what we offer:
  • $17.13–$19.00/hour DOE (Depending on Experience) + pooled tips
  • Morning-only schedule (café is open 7 AM–2 PM)
  • Closed every Sunday
  • Additional hours sometimes available for evening/weekend events in the space, beyond normal café hours
  • Washington Paid Sick Leave
  • Employee drink & food discounts
  • A genuine ground-floor opportunity — help shape a brand-new café from its very first week
What we're looking for, someone who can:
  • Make anyone — regular, first-timer, or event guest wandering through — feel like they're the reason the room feels good today
  • Bring a warm, guest-first attitude every shift
  • Pull espresso, steam milk, and build drinks confidently; previous barista experience preferred
  • Stay calm and quick during a morning rush
  • Keep the bar clean, stocked, and organized
  • Show up on time and be a reliable part of the opening team
  • Stand and move for the length of a shift

At Anaïs Coffee, we're building something around hospitality, community, and helping people grow — and we want our team to feel that, not just hear about it.

Café Hours (subject to change):

Monday – Saturday: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM Sunday: Closed

Requirements:
  • Available for morning shifts (opening shifts start around 6:30–6:45 AM)
  • Washington Food Worker Card (or willing to obtain before start date)
  • Reliable transportation to Edison Square, Tacoma
