Position Summary:
Executes municipal bond transactions for senior portfolio manager in the municipal bond team. Provides recommendations to partners on investment opportunities regarding securities prices. Conducts bond trading across several execution venues, including brokers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Executes fixed income bond transactions in accordance with portfolio managers instructions and guidelines.
2. Ensures fair and equitable treatment of all trade orders.
3. Maintains an understanding of relevant factors that impact the price of bonds such as market environment, supply/demand, technical factors, and economic fundamentals.
4. Apprises portfolio managers and other appropriate persons of relevant information affecting securities prices.
5. Maintains daily broker contact to conduct bond trading. Responsible for evaluating their effectiveness and service to meet the needs of the trading operations.
6. Serves as a resource to Portfolio Managers for information pertaining to the bond market, and specific securities.
7. Maintains orderly receipt, tracking, and execution of bond orders. Oversees the settlement of trades, communicating with subsidiary offices and following through on discrepancies with operations and brokers.
8. Provides consultation on portfolio strategies and structure in accordance with the clients investment objectives, market conditions, and current Fixed Income Policy as requested.
9. Maintains an understanding of investment vehicles, their individual characteristics and regulatory requirements, yields, and prices. Keeps abreast of current and pending laws and regulations that affect investments.
10. Provides portfolio analysis as requested by portfolio managers for current and prospective clients.
11. Manages less active bond portfolio assets for fiduciary and agency accounts in partnership with the primary relationship and portfolio manager.
Experience:
4 - 6 yrs of relevant experience
Competencies/Skills:
• Significant Knowledge of trading, investment vehicles, portfolio management, and credit research, acquired through formal education and work experience, to execute orders, manage portfolios profitability, and understand credits.
Salary Range:
$116,100 - 197,300 USD
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
