Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION

To lay-out, fabricate, assemble, bolt-up, flanges, valves, erect or make repairs for all types of structural, boiler and plate work.

TYPICAL DUTIES
  • Must be able to understands instructions regarding work assignment in shop and field.
  • Must be able Interprets drawings and sketches, plans details of working procedures for toosl and material requirements.
  • Must be able to selects materials according to suitability for job engineering standards.
  • Must be able to layout, plate work, pressure vessels, and miscellaneous fabrication.
  • Must be able to use straightedges, trammels, dividers, squares, tapes, shop Power tools, use of geometry to locate lines, centers, angles, bends and radii, make allowances for shrinkage, expansion, load and stress as identified by design engineer.
  • Must be able to do field sketches and measurements on repair and construction jobs.
  • Must be able to operate shop machines such as pantograph, bending rolls, plate shear, punch press, to fabricate parts.
  • Must be able to use wrenches, air hammer, dolly, portable drills, reamers, grinders and burning torch for fitting and bolting assemblies.
  • Must be able to do bolting or otherwise connects or fastens beams, plates, channels, angles and shapes.
  • Must be able to do block and tackle, hoist, and winches, for handling heavy assemblies.
  • Must be able to dismantles, installs, repairs and erects fabricated steel structures in connection with any type of boiler and pressure vessel work.
  • Must be able to check and perform hydrostatic or pneumatic tests on boiler tubes and pressure vessels.
  • Must be able to perform all aspects of heat exchanger services.
  • Must be able to do rigging work using hand signals for cranes as required.
  • Must be familiar with shop equipment such as rolls, sheers, drill presses, band saws, etc.
  • Must be able to identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • Must have a general knowledge of power and hand tools.
  • Must be able to pass the Boilermaker Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft.
  • Must Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the approved drug testing program.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be willing to work overtime.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to work at elevated heights from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial work platforms.
  • Must be able to work may include pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, such as raw or fabricated material, equipment or tools.
  • Must be able to perform tasks in hot and cold temperatures.
  • Must be able to perform work, including frequent bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment.
  • Must be able to work involving standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to a minimum of 8 hours per day.

Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training. To maintain an active status within the DISA drug testing program.

The pay rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior experience, specific skill set, geographic location, internal equity, and other factors influencing pay. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of this range, and in certain circumstances, may fall outside the listed hiring range.

Hiring range: $26.00 to $30.00 per hour
