Job description

Job Overview:
Operates, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs steam boilers, and hot water generators, distribution systems, components, and accessories. Operates and maintains Liquid Petroleum Gas Vaporizers, tanks, and associated piping within the plants. Read meters and gauges and adjust controls to maintain proper operating conditions. Records data such as temperatures, pressures, hours of operation and analysis of flue gases. Perform lubrication of motors, fan, and accessories.
Repairs and rebuilds boilers and associated equipment using portable power and hand tools when necessary. Calibrate boiler plant instrumentation and system controls using electronic, mechanical, chemical, and electrical test equipment. Test and treat boiler feed water with specified chemicals. Monitor the operation of Liquid Petroleum Gas Vaporizers, pressure regulators, piping and tanks within the LPG plant.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance on boilers, steam and hot water generators and distribution systems.
  • Perform corrective repairs on boilers, steam and hot water generators and distribution systems.
  • Perform preventative/corrective maintenance on the Liquid Petroleum Gas Plant.
  • Ability to use equipment manuals and follow and understand manufacturers' specifications to include the M.S.D.S.
  • Must be able to accurately track time, work orders, and parts using electronic devices

Basic Qualifications:
  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have three (3) verifiable years' experience as a High-Pressure Steam Boiler Operator
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License.
  • Must possess a County of Los Angeles 500hp Steam Operator's License or be able to obtain within four (4) months.
  • Must be able to demonstrate capability to perform maintenance and repairs to steam boilers, hot water generators, hot water heating systems and associated controls.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

Physical/Mental Abilities Required:
  • Ability to use technical manuals, technical bulletins or manufacturer's specifications while performing maintenance, troubleshooting or corrective repairs to steam boilers, hot water generators, and associated controls.
  • Ability to accurately read measuring devices, testing equipment or instruments.
  • Ability to use good judgment and common sense when performing job functions.
  • Ability to be punctual.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Wage Rates & Union Benefits
Wage rates and fringe benefits for this position are governed by terms of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the company and a union with jurisdiction for the job location.
CBAs for union projects typically include a retirement plan (such as a pension, annuity, or 401(k)), health insurance (e.g., medical, dental, vision), and other benefits. APTIM pays the costs for some fringe benefit plans for employees working on union projects. Under some CBAs, however, you may be required to contribute a percentage of your wages toward the cost of these benefits.
Additionally, you may also qualify for paid sick leave, paid holidays, paid vacation, and supplemental insurance plans (e.g., life, short-term disability, long-term disability). The CBA contains the terms and conditions of eligibility as well as information about any costs to you.
