What a day looks like
You arrive ready to keep a complex refinery humming 24/7. You review overnight logs, sync with Engineering, Maintenance, the Refinery, and the Boiler Room, and then get to work leading electrical projects that must meet applicable electrical codes. Before lunch you might replace a failed I/O card, clear a rack fault, and adjust ladder logic. After lunch, you could be importing a PLC database, updating electrical diagrams, surveying circuits and plans, and guiding outside contractors—while documenting electrical performance and estimating the next round of work.
Core impact you will make
- Install, maintain, modify, and repair plant electrical distribution systems and related equipment.
- Drive preventive maintenance and ensure job site and equipment care on every task.
- Lead electrical projects across the plant; collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Refinery, and Boiler Room to support 24-7 operations.
- Ensure full compliance with electrical codes; create and update electrical diagrams and documentation.
- Inspect and test system components such as transformers, transfer switches, and switchgear.
- Use blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer installation manuals to plan and execute work.
- Estimate loads, requirements, and materials for repairs and new installs; survey electrical systems, circuits, and plans.
- Utilize software tools to monitor and maintain electrical monitoring equipment.
- Interpret and modify basic logic diagrams; locate logic, troubleshoot issues, and validate changes.
- TDC systems: upload US stations after power loss; identify HPM IOP issues; detail points and determine which FTA each point uses.
- Allen-Bradley PLCs: clear rack faults; remove/install I/O cards; identify faulty cards and blown output fuses; troubleshoot and program ladder logic; change descriptors; edit rungs and add bridges; force and toggle bits; identify PLC addresses.
- Manage PLC data: import/export PLC databases and upload projects to PLCs.
- Build a strong working knowledge of unit operations: refinery systems and their purpose, BOHO, Steam Turbine Generator, wastewater, logistics; extensive involvement in maintaining operations of the CHP; extensive involvement in maintaining operations of the CE and B&W burner operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you bring
- MA Journeyman Electrical License, or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
- Previous instrument controls experience.
- 3–5 years of relevant industry experience.
Tools and fluency
- Blueprint reading proficiency.
- Technology: Microsoft Office, Excel, and SAP (ERP).

The employee is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to wear required PPE at all times. Work in confined spaces, climb refinery towers and storage tanks.
