Job description

Role Snapshot

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Operations, you will lead a rotating team to keep a complex refinery running safely, cleanly, and dependably—meeting daily business, quality, and performance goals. You’ll coordinate people, production plans, and maintenance actions while building a culture of zero defects and continuous improvement.

A Day in the Life

Your day begins by checking overnight KPIs and confirming the shift handoff. You review production planning (Daily/weekly MRP), align resources, and verify that safety controls are in place for employees and subcontractors. You update SAP with current production, quality, and maintenance data, prioritize system troubleshooting, and follow through on E-maintenance actions. Throughout the shift, you coach operators, verify adherence to established operating guidelines, and reinforce the HACCP Program (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) and SQF practices. You adjust schedules—adding clean-up technicians as needed—to protect plant cleanliness and safe conditions. Before close, you analyze operations reports, confirm yield and throughput targets, and prepare the next team for a smooth transition.

What You’ll Drive
  • Champion safe work practices for all employees and subcontractors; ensure consistent compliance.
  • Monitor and update daily SAP data to reflect accurate production, quality, and maintenance records.
  • Own and execute production planning (Daily/weekly MRP) to meet demand reliably.
  • Lead system troubleshooting; coordinate maintenance for defects; track work via documentation/SAP/E-maintenance.
  • Schedule and allocate the right people and resources to run the process each day.
  • Develop the operations team through cross-training, promoting from within, and addressing performance issues directly and constructively.
  • Coordinate additional clean-up technicians to maintain a clean, safe plant.
  • Operate the plant with maximum reliability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Keep operations within KPI targets (production cost, maintenance cost, chemical usage).
  • Ensure products meet spec, yields are maximized, and throughput is optimized.
  • Partner across teams to advance a zero-defect culture and strong teamwork.
  • Support change management (communications, education, team development, coaching) and alert management to necessary employee warnings and counseling.
  • Support new product development initiatives within operations.
  • Ensure operators and technicians follow established system operating guidelines.
  • Ensure HACCP Program (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) and SQF are fully executed by operations and each operator.
  • Prepare and analyze operation reports; perform other duties as requested or required.
Qualifications Required
  • Four-year college degree in a technical discipline (BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, BSME) or equivalent technical work experience.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • At least 2 years of progressively increasing supervisory responsibility.
Preferred
  • SAP experience.
  • Ability to read P&ID’s and schematics.
  • Able to obtain TWIC certification.
  • Manufacturing plant and/or refinery experience.
Schedule & Travel
  • Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week on a 3-week rotating schedule:
  • Week 1: 6 am – 2 pm
  • Week 2: 11:30 am – 7 pm
  • Week 3: 1 pm – 9 pm
  • On call approximately one weekend per quarter.
  • Travel: Infrequent; may be required for training or customer needs.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Primarily office-based with periodic field tasks in all weather conditions.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE); some work in confined spaces.
  • Frequent walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 65 lbs.
  • Climb ladders to access mission-critical equipment and collect samples; some towers exceed 100 feet.
Core Proficiencies
  • Leadership / People Management
  • Process Engineering
