POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facilities Director serves as the senior facilities leader for the organization, responsible for the strategic oversight and day-to-day execution of facilities, maintenance, janitorial, and safety operations across all company locations. This role directs and supports a team of approximately 21 direct and indirect reports and ensures that all facilities, equipment, and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and in full regulatory compliance.

This is a highly visible leadership role that partners closely with ownership and senior leadership on capital planning, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration & Compliance

  • Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets, ensuring responsible spending and alignment with business priorities
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable infrastructure-related regulatory requirements, including environmental and safety regulations (e.g., Drinking Water, Wastewater, Stormwater, Air Emissions, OSHA/CalOSHA)
  • Oversee health, safety, and environmental inspections, documentation, and corrective actions
  • Manage third-party consultants and service providers supporting compliance analysis, monitoring, and reporting
  • Provide technical guidance and subject-matter expertise across company operations as requested

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors and team members across Maintenance, Janitorial, and Safety functions
  • Oversee attendance review and approvals in compliance with wage and hour laws and company policies
  • Set goals, conduct performance reviews, and support leadership development within the department
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and safety-first leadership
  • Represent the Facilities Department within the broader organizational structure

Vendor & External Services Management

  • Manage key external service providers, including 24/7 security services
  • Negotiate, evaluate, and manage vendor contracts to ensure service quality, regulatory compliance, and cost effectiveness

Capital Planning & Project Management

  • Lead maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement projects across all locations
  • Develop and maintain a rolling three-year facilities and capital improvement plan
  • Identify, justify, prioritize, and present capital projects for executive and ownership approval
  • Develop scopes of work, technical specifications, schedules, and cost estimates
  • Directly manage or oversee approved projects, including partnerships with outside engineering firms
  • Manage permits and regulatory approvals for owner-managed construction projects

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in facilities, maintenance, or engineering within a regulated manufacturing, food & beverage, or winery environment
  • Experience leading multiple teams with both direct and indirect reports
  • Working knowledge of California environmental regulations and OSHA/CalOSHA standards
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop teams
  • Experience managing budgets, capital planning, and vendor relationships
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and regulatory documentation
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Valid California driverโ€™s license and ability to meet insurance requirements

Preferred

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Winery or wine production facilities experience
  • AutoCAD or similar design software experience
  • PLC, building automation, or control systems knowledge
  • CMMS experience and/or water system operator certifications (D1/T1)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Combination of office and field work
  • Winery and production environments may involve exposure to hot or cold temperatures, wet or slippery surfaces, noise, and other industrial conditions
  • Local travel between company locations
  • Standard business hours with occasional off-hours work for emergencies or planned operational needs
  • Seasonal workload fluctuations, including extended hours during harvest

COMPENSATION:

$170,000 - $190,000 /yr
