Boeing Pre-Employment Training (BPET) Students - Assembly Mechanic

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking to provide students and recent graduates of Boeing Pre-Employment Training (BPET) certified academic courses and Military Occupation Codes with the opportunity to join our 787 production teams working as an Aircraft Assembly Electrical or System Mechanic to support the 787-production system in North Charleston, South Carolina on a variable shift.
Your BPET Endorsement Form will outline the specific roles for which your course or Military Occupation Code qualifies you for a direct offer of employment. Following your application, a Boeing recruiter will reach out to discuss these roles and ensure a smooth transition into your new role.
This role offers an exciting opportunity within a dynamic manufacturing assembly environment. Team members will leverage their prior experience, along with the knowledge gained through foundational training and certifications, to complete daily assigned tasks safely and with quality.
Individuals will be responsible for identifying parts and tooling within their work locations on advanced airplanes by interpreting technical drawings to accurately complete detailed work instructions. Attention to detail and strict compliance with procedures are critical to correctly identify all necessary hand tools, parts, and equipment required to ensure defect-free work. This position is physically demanding, and employment is contingent upon successful completion of foundational training requirements.

This position is exclusively open to students who have completed Boeing Pre-Employment Training (BPET) certified courses.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Quality: Maintaining rigorous quality standards in all deliverables, ensuring that our work meets or exceeds expectations and complies with all regulatory and company requirements.
  • Teamwork: Contribute to a collaborative environment, engaging with teammates and support teams to achieve our shared mission by working together; be willing to ask for help and give it freely.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Must successfully complete the new hire foundational training to obtain and maintain all required certifications.
  • Proficient use of a computer in a dynamic production environment.
  • Look up/read/comprehend electronic technical work instructions, drawings and/or specifications.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing/equipment determined by the task performed.
  • Operate various mechanical lifts (e.g. ladders, tiger and snorkel lifts).
  • Use various hand tools and diagnostic equipment such as screwdrivers, ratchets, power screwdriver multi meters, continuity testers.
  • Install various aircraft system components and wiring such as: tubing, valves, regulators, actuators, compressors, ducts, and interior components.
  • Route wire harnesses to supports, install connectors to receptacles and electronic components.
  • Fiber optic clean and inspection, light loss testing, routing and installation.
  • Apply chemical solvents, sealants, coatings, primers, adhesives, paints and special finishes.
  • Work in confined space and respirator usage.
  • Inspect your work quality and check for Foreign Object Debris.
  • Work around energized sources (electrical equipment and hazards/shock, e.g. circuit breakers and wiring) and exposure to constant noise.
  • Finger manipulation (keyboarding, other).
  • Lifting and carrying up to 10-35 pounds.
  • Climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces), Crawling, Crouching (squatting).
  • Flexion/Extension (head bent down, head bent back), Handling, Kneeling, Bending at the waist, Reaching (overhead), Rotation of head/neck, Standing, Twisting at the waist and walking.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • Be a student or recent graduate of a Boeing Pre-Employment Training (BPET) academic course or Military Occupation Code that is certified for the BPET Assembly Structures Mechanic role. Applicants must have a valid BPET Endorsement Form.

Physical demands and requirements:
  • Must have the ability to work variable shifts (first, second, or third) based on business needs.
  • Must be able to walk constantly throughout the workday; stand 6-8 hours per day; climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day; climb ladders; bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day; squat and kneel.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 35 pounds; push/pull using up to 45 pounds of force; and reach overhead up to six hours per day.
  • Must be able to work with high-hazard chemicals using proper protective equipment provided.
  • Must be able to complete and maintain Confined Space and Fall Protection certifications, if required.
  • Experience using software applications such as internet navigation, email, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or other specialized computer applications.
  • Experience following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications, along with successful completion of training and knowledge assessments involving mathematical calculations, all conducted in English.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, technical, or mechanical field, including equivalent education or military experience, performing work with basic hand, power, and/or pneumatic (air) tools.
