Job description

Mechanical & Structural Engineering Manager

Company:

The Boeing Company

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a Mechanical & Structural Engineering Manager (Level K) to join 787 Airframe Structures on our Fuselage Life Cycle Product Team (LCPT) in North Charleston, SC.

As the Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of structures analysis and design engineers supporting the 787 S41 and the 787 final body joints.The statement of work will include future airframe design, factory and fleet support, as well as the oversight of 787 Partners and the supply chain.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, servant-minded leader who fosters a positive, collaborative work environment through clear communication, mentoring, and coaching. They will effectively manage multiple concurrent initiatives including both short and long-term assignments, build strong cross-functional relationships and promote a culture of engineering excellence and safety. Using sound engineering judgment, this leader will guide their team to deliver efficient, practical solutions that satisfy product safety requirements and business objectives.

This position may require domestic and international travel as needed (approximately 10%) to support business and program goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Staff and budget planning, as well as implementing best practices in program management

  • Develop and execute business plans, policies, and procedures while formulating organizational and technical strategies

  • Acquire resources, provide technical management of suppliers, and spearhead process improvements

  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports will be essential

  • Provide oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes, while managing, developing, and motivating employees

  • Mentor and develop team member's technical and leadership capabilities

  • Help facilitate daily team stand ups utilizing OPD best practices

  • Proactive collaboration with customers and support organizations, build positive relationships (i.e. LE, Prod. Engineering, Operations, Fleet Support teams)

  • Manage daily team priorities to effectively utilize team resources

  • Communicate with lead engineers, management and team members

  • Establish clear RAA for lead engineers, foster and develop lead pipeline

  • Develop and execute business plans, policies and procedures and develop organizational and technical strategies

  • Support hiring of engineering team

  • Provide technical guidance and oversite to team and partner

  • Maintain and update BOE/EAC/LRBP tools and process

Boeing First-Line Leader Assessment:

  • To be considered for this position you will be required to complete an assessment as part of the selection process.Failure to complete the assessment will remove you from consideration.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)

  • 5+ years of experience in the Aerospace Industry

  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functionalproject/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course "Exploring Leadership"

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience leading aerospace design engineering teams and integrating within a global supply base and product value streams

  • 3+ years of experience with Boeing Commercial Airplanes

  • 1+ years of experience in using project management methodologies, including developing project plans, performance management, and managing issues and risks

  • Experience managing projects and initiatives through to their completion/implementation hand-off point

  • 787 Airframe Experience

  • Experience with commercial aircraft certification processes and regulations

  • Demonstrated ability in team building, coaching, and employee development to enhance team performance and engagement
