Manufacturing Engineer (Experienced and Lead Level)

Boeing Global Services (BGS) is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including an Experienced and Lead Level Manufacturing Engineer to join the Supply Chain Engineering team in Long Beach, CA or are open to considering candidates for placement in Dallas, TX.

In this role, you will work directly with our suppliers, leveraging your parts manufacturing experience to enhance their manufacturing readiness and performance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for process improvement and efficiency, as well as the ability to foster collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure the stability of the Boeing production system.

In Supply Chain Engineering, we seek dedicated professionals who are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and integrity.

Position Responsibilities:

As a Manufacturing Engineer in the Supply Chain Engineering organization, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful integration of engineering requirements and supplier capabilities to enhance Boeing's production system. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyze and Enhance Design Concepts: Evaluate and improve design/build concepts to ensure producible product definitions, integrating across engineering disciplines to drive Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) requirements into aircraft component designs.
  • Implement Technical Solutions: Engage in the implementation of technical solutions within the build plan while utilizing your technical knowledge to innovate, design, and develop manufacturing and assembly processes, tooling, assembly fixtures, and procedures. Ensure product safety, stability, and reliability throughout the manufacturing process, meeting Boeing's high standards.
  • Assist in Manufacturing Plan Creation: Support the creation and implementation of manufacturing plans that ensure efficient production processes.
  • Lead Supplier Engagement: Lead complex evaluations of Boeing engineering requirements through partnering with suppliers, ensuring an accurate, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing and assembly process.
  • Evaluate New Suppliers: Participate in the evaluation of new suppliers, ensuring they meet Boeing's engineering and quality standards before engaging in production.
  • Facilitate Cross-Functional Communication: Collaborate with design engineers across various commodities to ensure seamless integration of interfacing airplane components, including Manufacturing and Process Technology (M&PT), structures, interiors, and electrical systems. Act as a liaison between engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment on Requirements Consumption Review (RCR) findings and drive improvements in supplier performance.
  • Engage Stakeholders for Improvement: Regularly engage with stakeholders, including internal teams and external suppliers, to identify and implement opportunities for improving the efficiency and reliability.
  • Implement and Promote Lean Methodologies: Develop and implement process improvements using Lean production methodologies to enhance efficiency and reduce waste in manufacturing operations. Assist in the adoption of Lean principles and technologies to foster a culture of continuous improvement across the organization, while performing Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) analyses to identify and resolve engineering concerns from Boeing or suppliers that affect the stability of the production system.
  • Monitor Supplier Performance: Regularly assess supplier performance metrics and provide constructive feedback to drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes and product quality.
  • Ability to work on-site 5 days per week.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics.
  • Extensive experience with Boeing engineering requirements and processes.
  • Experience working with suppliers and component manufacturing.
  • Ability to collaborate with suppliers, all Boeing Programs, manufacturing teams and other supporting stakeholders.
  • Ability to present to senior and executive leadership.
  • 5+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years of higher education and/or related work experience. (Higher education includes college, university, technical school, licensing/certification programs, etc.).
  • 4 + years' experience in Production Configuration Management.
  • 4 + years' experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • 4 + years' experience working with multi-functional teams/organizations.
  • Experience implementing or defining new Manufacturing processes in a production setting.
  • Experience with the following software PDM, CAPP, REDARS-EID, IVT, WIRS, EWITS, BWS-CM, CDS, EWIRE, E-PLAN, VELOCITY, ENOVIA, EWIRE, Equipment Manager.
