Job description

Do you have a passion for providing top-tier pet care and a knack for leading a dedicated team? VCA Briarcliff Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Boarding Supervisor to join our leadership team!
The successful candidate will share our commitment to delivering exceptional service to our loyal clientele and the highest quality care to their boarded and hospitalized pets, while guiding and mentoring our animal care team.
What You'll Do (Job Responsibilities)
As our Boarding Supervisor, you will lead our boarding department by combining direct animal care with team leadership and administrative oversight. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Team Leadership & Training: Oversee the daily operations of the boarding department. Train, mentor, coach, and schedule the boarding staff and Animal Care Attendants to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
  • Operations & Safety: Maintain a clean, safe, and highly organized boarding environment. Monitor inventory of pet care, cleaning, and feeding supplies, and coordinate ordering as needed.
  • Client & Department Communication: Communicate professionally with clients regarding boarding reservations, special needs, medication instructions, and general updates.
  • Collaborative Care: Act as a key liaison between the boarding team and our veterinary doctors/technicians to seamlessly coordinate care for medical boarders and hospitalized pets.
  • Hands-on Care Support: Assist the team as needed with daily husbandry duties, including:
    • Cleaning and disinfecting cages, runs, and common hospital areas.
    • Feeding, watering, and monitoring the health and behavior of dogs and cats.
    • Walking and exercising dogs.
    • Bathing pets and doing laundry.
    • Assisting Doctors and Technicians with safe patient handling when necessary.

What We're Looking For (Skills & Qualifications)
  • Prior experience in animal care (boarding, kennel, dog daycare, or veterinary hospital) is required.
  • Leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the needs of the business.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and be on your feet for extended periods, and safely lift up to 40 pounds.
