Job description

Connector Board Member

For individuals with strong networks in autism services, nonprofit fundraising, or the corporate sector.

Family-Led Autism Collective (FLAC) operates on simple but powerful insight: the family is the most valuable and most underutilized asset in a childโ€™s autism treatment journey. Through our program, we provide direct financial support - typically $600 to $1,600 per month - to families nationwide, tied to engagement and adherence to their childโ€™s treatment plan rather than financial need alone.

As FLAC grows, we are building a Board of Directors that reflects the full ecosystem around our mission. Our single greatest need right now is fundraising capacity, and this role plays a key part of that effort. This role brings an established network in the autism, nonprofit, or corporate space to expand FLACโ€™s reach.

About This Role

The Connector Board Member expands FLACโ€™s reach by bringing an established network in the autism community, nonprofit and fundraising world, or corporate sector. This individual may be a clinician, autism advocate, nonprofit executive, corporate leader, or fundraising professional who can open doors, make introductions, and help position FLAC in front of new funders, partners, and corporate sponsors. We are especially interested in candidates connected to corporations that could serve as sponsors, matching-gift partners, or grant funders.

Connectors are the bridge-builders of our Board - this role offers reach, relationships, and credibility within the spaces FLAC needs to access to grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make warm introductions between FLAC and your network - autism organizations, clinicians, nonprofit peers, corporate contacts, and fundraising professionals
  • Help identify and cultivate corporate sponsorship, matching-gift, and cause-marketing opportunities
  • Represent FLAC at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities within the autism and nonprofit sectors
  • Advise on fundraising strategy and best practices, drawing on your professional experience in the space
  • Support outreach to foundations, grant makers, and corporate giving programs where you have existing relationships
  • Help strengthen FLACโ€™s visibility and credibility within the broaden autism services and advocacy community
  • Participate in Board meetings, committee work, and strategic planning
  • Uphold fiduciary and legal duties of nonprofit board service (duty of care, loyalty, and obedience)

What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • An active, established network in one or more of: autism services/advocacy, nonprofit fundraising, or the corporate sector (corporate social responsibility, foundations, sponsorships)
  • Comfort making introductions and advocating for FLAC within your professional circles
  • Genuine interest in autism services and family-centered care
  • Strategic thinker who can help FLAC identify new partnership and funding channels
  • Prior nonprofit board experience is a plus, but not required - network strength and willingness to activate it matter most

Fundraising & Giving Expectations

  • FLAC maintains a 100% Board giving policy for the Board as a whole. This expectation is waived for Connector Board Members in recognition that this roleโ€™s primary value is network access, introductions, and expertise rather than personal financial capacity.
  • The core fundraising contribution of this role is facilitating introductions and partnerships that lead to new corporate sponsors, grants, or major donors.

Term Length

2 years, renewable for additional terms upon mutual agreement and Board approval

Compensation

Unpaid, volunteer position

Time Commitment

Approximately 6-10 hours per month, consistent with typical engaged-board norms. This includes quarterly full Board meetings (virtual), occasional email/e-votes between meetings, and periodic strategy or fundraising activities.

Reporting Line

Reports to the Board Chair and partners closely with the Development team.

Shared Board Responsibilities

  • Attend and prepare for quarterly Board meetings (approximately 4 per year)
  • Review meeting materials in advance and participate actively in discussions and decision-making
  • Act in the best interest of FLAC and its mission, avoiding conflicts of interest
  • Support and help evaluate the Executive Director
  • Champion FLACโ€™s mission publicly and help build awareness of our work
