JOB SUMMARY:

Overall Summary of Function
The Fabrication Supervisor I oversees the strategic and operational management of the Fabrication Department. This includes custom fabrication projects, carpentry operations, scenic construction, project planning, labor allocation, quality control, equipment utilization, and fabrication shop workflow. The role is responsible for department-wide planning, workforce development, process improvement, and operational performance to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to Blueprint Studios quality standards.

This position leads Fabrication Leads and Associates while partnering with Design, Production, Print, Floral, Inventory, Shipping, and Field Operations to support client needs, operational priorities, and successful project execution. The Fabrication Supervisor I is responsible for maintaining fabrication quality standards, supporting innovation, and ensuring effective use of labor, materials, equipment, and fabrication resources.

In addition, this role promotes a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, innovation, safety, and efficiency while evaluating project workloads to allocate labor effectively, maximize shop productivity, and maintain exceptional quality across all fabrication activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

At Minimum Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Department Oversight

  • Supervise and mentor all Fabrication Leads, Supervisors, and Associates to achieve departmental goals.

  • Establish and enforce consistent fabrication processes, quality standards, and workflow expectations across projects and teams.

  • Develop and manage department schedules, labor forecasts, staffing plans, and fabrication priorities based on project requirements.

  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching sessions, and ongoing employee development activities.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, teamwork, innovation, and safety excellence.

Operational Strategy & Project Planning
  • Lead daily, weekly, and monthly planning for fabrication projects, custom builds, installations, and operational support activities.

  • Attend and actively participate in production, operations, planning, safety, and other required company meetings; provide updates on fabrication projects, production capacity, material availability, timelines, and department priorities while responding to questions and supporting cross-functional planning and execution.

  • Review project drawings, specifications, sketches, renderings, and construction requirements to ensure successful execution.

  • Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, shop resources, and fabrication schedules to support project deadlines.

  • Ensure all fabrication activities are planned and executed safely in accordance with company policies, enforcing PPE requirements, proper operation of shop equipment, safe material handling practices, and appropriate controls for activities involving dust, coatings, paints, adhesives, chemicals, or other hazardous materials.

  • Collaborate with Design, Creative, Production, and Operations teams to ensure fabrication requirements are properly understood and executed.

  • Support project estimating, fabrication planning, and resource forecasting activities.

  • Assist with installation, strike planning, and field support requirements when necessary.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Fabrication Quality, Construction Standards & Documentation
  • Ensure all fabrication projects meet Blueprint Studios quality standards, construction requirements, and client expectations.

  • Perform and oversee fabrication, assembly, sanding, painting, cutting, measuring, drilling, fastening, finishing, installation, and related fabrication tasks while supporting project execution and team development.

  • Oversee fabrication quality control processes including measurements, finishes, assembly methods, structural integrity, and craftsmanship standards.

  • Review project documentation, drawings, material requirements, and fabrication specifications for accuracy.

  • Support documentation of project changes, fabrication notes, material usage, and build modifications.

  • Promote continuous improvement in fabrication methods, construction standards, and project execution.

Cross Department Coordination
  • Serve as the primary fabrication liaison for Design, Production, Print, Floral, Inventory, Shipping, and Field Operations teams.

  • Partner with Inventory, Shipping, Production, and Field Operations to ensure fabricated products are completed, staged, transferred, and delivered according to project schedules and event requirements.

  • Communicate project status, risks, material needs, labor requirements, and schedule updates proactively.

  • Coordinate movement of fabricated products between fabrication, warehouse operations, and event destinations.

  • Support installation planning, logistics coordination, and event readiness requirements for fabricated products.

  • Assist with inventory planning and material management to support ongoing fabrication activities.

SOP Enforcement, Process Reliability & Continuous Improvement
  • Support facility compliance requirements by assisting with inspection preparation, conducting routine safety checks, and maintaining documentation for equipment certifications and safety expirations, including ensuring daily operational standards such as proper door closures and general safety practices are followed.

  • Develop and maintain fabrication SOPs, quality standards, shop procedures, and workflow expectations.

  • Identify and implement process improvements related to fabrication efficiency, shop organization, labor utilization, and project execution.

  • Monitor departmental KPIs related to productivity, quality, labor utilization, project completion, and safety.

  • Support equipment maintenance planning, shop organization initiatives, and fabrication resource management.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, fabrication standards, and operational procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by fabrication or operations leadership to support business needs and operational continuity.

Safety & Compliance Leadership
  • Enforce company safety programs and fabrication shop safety standards.

  • Ensure proper use of PPE, tools, machinery, equipment, and fabrication resources.

  • Conduct safety inspections and support company safety initiatives.

  • Maintain documentation related to incidents, corrective actions, equipment concerns, and safety compliance.

  • Promote Blueprint Studios' safety culture through leadership, accountability, and example.

QUALIFICATIONS
At Minimum Training, Education & Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of fabrication, carpentry, scenic construction, or related trade experience.

  • Proven experience in carpentry, fabrication, scenic construction, or related trades.

  • Hands on experience working with wood, metal, laminates, plastics, and other fabrication materials.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, and construction plans.

  • Knowledge of CNC routers and fabrication equipment preferred.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required to meet business needs.

  • Excellent understanding of fabrication methods, carpentry techniques, installation practices, and construction standards.

  • Proficient in the use of electrical and manual tools, shop equipment, and measurement instruments, including powered saws, drills, routers, hammers, and precision measuring tools.

  • Ability to read technical documents, specifications, and fabrication drawings.

  • Strong commitment to following safety guidelines and promoting safe work practices at all times.

  • Good understanding of basic mathematics, measurements, fractions, and material calculations.

  • High school diploma required; successful completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program, technical trade program, or equivalent fabrication experience preferred.

  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and project coordination skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, leadership, vendors, and cross functional departments.

  • Ability to train, mentor, and develop fabrication employees.

  • Valid driver's license with a clear driving record.

  • Availability for overtime, travel, installation support, emergency projects, and operational needs as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and use hands to handle, feel, and operate tools, machinery, equipment, and materials; frequently reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, or crawl as required by fabrication, installation, material handling, and construction activities.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while performing detailed fabrication, assembly, finishing, repair, inspection, measurement, or quality control work.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly with team members, leadership, vendors, and cross functional departments to exchange accurate information and coordinate project activities.

  • Must have the ability to observe details at close range, including measurements, construction accuracy, surface condition, finish quality, color matching, blueprint details, and fabrication specifications.

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and move materials, fabricated products, tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds, and occasionally more with assistance or proper equipment.

  • Work environment includes exposure to varying noise levels, typically moderate to heavy, due to the operation of fabrication machinery, power tools, shop equipment, and warehouse activities.

  • Work environment may include exposure to varying temperatures, including hot and cold conditions, depending on warehouse, fabrication shop, outdoor, installation, and event environments.

  • Must be able to safely operate company vehicles, forklifts, pallet jacks, lifts, and other material handling equipment as authorized and required by the position.

  • Will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, respirators, safety footwear, and other protective equipment as required by company policy and the tasks being performed.
