Job Description

Join General Dynamics IT and be a part of a team that solve some of the world's most complex technical challenges. The Space Force's HADES program is seeking a Ground Systems Chief Engineer to join their team in Albuquerque, NM.

The Chief Engineer is the senior technical leader with extensive experience supporting satellite C2 systems, subsystems, cyber, crypto, communications, cloud technology implementations. The CE is well versed in systems engineering, architecture, project/program management, scheduling and is the lead for all core/mission risks and opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire systems engineering lifecycle, using authoritative data, systems architecture, and systems modeling to create more efficient and lower-risk processes that produce artifacts of higher quality

    • Leads technical requirements development by codifying model-based practices, designed test-driven requirements architecture for verification

    • Leads systems design process by decomposing systems into functional and logical architectures, identifying components for re-use while adhering to modular open systems architecture (MOSA)

    • Oversees implementation by aligning to change management processes and providing current design artifacts substantiated from authoritative data

    • Leads system integration process by developing a data-driven and model-based approach to interface control, implementing automation as necessary to verify subsystems and components adhere to interface design

    • Leads verification process by architecting test activities (unit, subsystem, integration, and end-to-end) and ensuring that test environments maintain parity with operational environments

    • Leads validation process by developing user acceptance plans and coordinating with customers and stakeholders

    • Leads sustainment processes by designing maintenance activities that are highly repeatable and leverage resulting data to inform stakeholders to high-risk subsystems and/or components

  • Oversees mission unique software integration and interface control management.

  • Performs system integration of multiple efforts to integrate complex space systems, ground segment integration, and deployment into operations.

  • Performs systems architecting and engineering activities such as system requirements definition, interface definition, design, interface management, data architecture development, systems integration, performance analysis, lifecycle cost analysis & estimation, decision analysis, and development and refinement of communications concepts of operation.

  • Provides input to program risk management activities by supplying technical risk data, including risk mitigation plans, likelihood of risk, and impact dates.

  • Independently collaborates with Government program office representatives, FFRDC, SETA, and contractor personnel.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Technical BS required; MS desired

  • 15+ years of progressive systems engineering experience in aerospace, satellite ground systems, or large-scale DoW programs

  • 4+ years in technical leadership roles as Chief Engineer, Lead Systems Architect, or Technical Director

  • Proven experience with 3 or more:

    oSatellite ground control systems, mission control centers (MCC), or space operations centers (SOC)

    oHybrid cloud architectures (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, on-premises virtualization)

    oMulti-mission, multi-classification operational environments

    oEnterprise software-intensive systems and low-cost R&D systems

    oConfiguration management across complex ground infrastructure

    o DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

    o24x7 mission-critical operations with high-availability requirements (99.9%+)

  • TS with SCI eligibility.

Certifications:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional OR Azure Solutions Architect Expert

  • INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) OR ESEP

  • 8140 Position:CISSP, or Security+

  • One of these: SAFe Architect, DoDAF/MODAF, Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $169,604 - $229,464. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
