Blockchain Crypto Risk Management information

What is blockchain crypto risk management?

Blockchain Crypto Risk Management refers to the process of identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies. Professionals in this field analyze threats like cyberattacks, fraud, regulatory changes, and market volatility that could impact digital assets or blockchain-based systems. They develop strategies to protect assets, ensure compliance, and maintain the integrity of blockchain operations. Effective risk management helps companies and investors minimize losses and adhere to industry standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a blockchain crypto risk management professional?

To thrive in Blockchain Crypto Risk Management, you need a solid understanding of blockchain technology, financial regulations, cybersecurity, and risk assessment methodologies, often supported by degrees in finance, computer science, or certifications like Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). Familiarity with risk management tools, blockchain analytics platforms, and compliance systems such as Chainalysis or Elliptic is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help professionals identify vulnerabilities and explain complex risks to stakeholders. These skills are essential to safeguard digital assets, ensure regulatory compliance, and protect organizations from financial and reputational losses in the evolving crypto landscape.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals in blockchain crypto risk management, and how are they addressed?

Professionals in Blockchain Crypto Risk Management often encounter challenges such as rapidly evolving regulatory requirements, complex technical vulnerabilities, and the need to keep pace with new blockchain protocols and attack vectors. To address these, teams regularly conduct risk assessments, collaborate with legal and IT departments, and participate in ongoing training. Additionally, they implement robust monitoring and incident response frameworks to quickly identify and mitigate emerging threats, ensuring compliance and security across blockchain operations.

Job description

Chainalysis is the blockchain data platform. We provide data, software, services, and research to government agencies, financial institutions, cybersecurity companies, and more to help detect and prevent cryptocurrency crime and ensure compliance. Backed by top-tier investors, we are building the foundational data infrastructure for the future of finance.

The Finance and Strategy team at Chainalysis are strategic financial advisors to our leadership team and the Company. We strive to grow our processes, operations, and team to meet the rapidly expanding needs of the business. We seek to match the pace of innovation of the business and to deliver real time and meaningful insights to decision makers.

We are looking for a Senior Manager of Strategic Finance to join our Finance team at a critical inflection point in the company's growth. Reporting directly to the VP Head of Finance, you will be a key thought partner to senior leadership — supporting our long-term financial model, evaluating growth opportunities, driving capital allocation decisions, creating comprehensive pricing analyses, and building the analytical frameworks that guide how we invest across the business. The position blends rigorous analytics with clear executive communication and strong stakeholder management. It is a high-visibility, high-impact individual contributor role. You will work closely with the CFO, Finance leadership, and leadership throughout the Company on our most consequential strategic decisions.

In this role, you will:

Lead valuation work and TAM analyses and market research. Drive overall market analyses and competitive intelligence analyses

  • Analyze current pricing and packaging models. Develop a deep understanding of market pricing trends related to AI and consumption. Learn the nuances of our public and private sectors, geographies, products, segments, etc. in and influence our pricing strategy
  • Enhance and own the company's long-range financial model. Understand key business and industry drivers to build dynamic models that allow leadership to rapidly evaluate the financial impact of strategic decisions. Lead sensitivity analysis around macro factors relevant to the blockchain/crypto industry
    • Scale the model and build it into our planning tool
  • Create sophisticated financial models, and drive scenario analyses that inform major capital allocation decisions, including M&A, partnerships, and new market entry.
    • Synthesize scenario outputs into clear, executive-ready narratives and recommendations
    • Track post-investment performance against underwriting assumptions and surface learnings back into the planning process
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on high-stakes questions. Understand the long-term impact of near-term decisions in order to make recommendations to leadership and the executive team
  • Be operationally savvy. Understand the operational impacts of strategic work, and partner with the business to ensure suggestions are operationally feasible. Assist with the implementation of operational changes resulting from strategic decisions

What you need:

  • 6–9 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate finance, FP&A, or a similar analytical role
  • Strong executive presentation skills - an ability to clearly and succinctly present complex topics to a C-level audience. Possess an investor mindset; ability to synthesize complex business dynamics into clear investment theses and risk-adjusted recommendations
  • Strong business intuition — you connect financial outcomes to operational drivers and can tell the story behind the numbers
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and making high-quality decisions with incomplete information
  • Entrepreneurial orientation: eager to define and develop the strategic finance function, not just execute within it
  • Excellent financial modeling skills, including the ability to work with large data sets in both Excel and Google Sheets
  • Experience working at a SaaS, data, or technology company preferred. Familiarity with the blockchain, crypto, or Web3 industry is a strong plus but not required
AI at Chainalysis

AI is not a feature at Chainalysis - it is a new way of working. One that turns instructions into work done, and helps us move faster than the threats we're built to counter, and we expect our employees to take ownership of the output and ensure quality. As the world's most trusted blockchain analytics platform, Chainalysis sits at a rare intersection of proprietary data, regulatory relationships and crypto expertise that makes it uniquely placed to shape and lead the next era of AI-driven intelligence - and we expect everyone here, regardless of role, to be an active part of it.

AI fluency is tied directly to how we measure performance and how we plan to win. There is no substitute for your own curiosity. We provide the tools, workflows, and space to experiment - but the expectation is that you develop these capabilities yourself, bring ideas, and collaborate across teams to reinvent the way work gets done. We are not using AI to do less. We are using it to do what was never possible before.
