Position Overview

The Birthday Party Captain, acting under the direction of the Party Coordinator and in tandem with Participant Development Manager, is the head of individual birthday parties. Party Captains will facilitate a memorable and fun party atmosphere for the attendees by confirming parties are properly set up, greeting guests, playing games, serving food, providing an introductory skating lesson, and party clean up. The captain has the duty to ensure each birthday child, family, and participants have a memorable and unique experience while visiting Sharks Ice.

Shift Information:

Shifts are primarily weekends

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Party Preparation:

  • Follows details/script of the party agenda given by the Party Coordinator during pre-party briefing.
  • Confirm food orders, party scheduling, and public session programming with Party Coordinator.
  • Sets up table decorations and party favors.
  • Assist in any area of preparation when needed.

Party Execution:

  • Ensures party areas are clean and prepared in a timely manner before, during, and after the party.
  • Greets parents, birthday person, and children when they arrive. Shows family where their party will be held and explains timeline.
  • Fits and ties skates for party participants.
  • Give off ice and on ice verbal instructions according to party agenda.
  • Plans and executes several birthday games to take place both on and off the ice, as well as the party area according to party agenda.
  • Coordinate birthday group in a manner during the party ensuring everyone participate in all the scheduled activities with special attention given to the birthday child.
  • Ensure the party contact settles any remaining portion of their bill.
  • Ensure party rooms are cleaned, and all tables and chairs are put away. This includes continuous clearing of the plates, cups, table ware and garbage during the party.
  • Cleans up after party.
  • Ensures the highest level of customer service (i.e. record gift list, offer to take photos etc.)
  • Ability to work in a team of Party Captains with direction from the Party Coordinator to ensure an enjoyable and cohesive party experience.
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Team-work oriented.
  • Prior ice rink experience preferred.
  • Some experience in recreation, childcare, or education is preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job that are physically demanding.
  • Required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to possess dependable transportation.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment.
