Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Perinatal Technician is a non-licensed member of the perinatal team and is responsible for a variety of non-patient care and patient care activities under the direction and supervision of the Birth Center Charge Nurse and medical staff in the Birth Center. This position is an ambassador of the department and serves as a front desk receptionist, provides clerical support, is trained to scrub during cesarean sections, acts as a doula providing labor support, and collaborates with other members of the patient care team to provide care in accordance with the medical plan of care. Maintains positive public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and other staff members in a friendly and professional manner. Ensures the safe handling of infectious materials to protect patients, visitors and employees at all times. Floats to other departments when staffing shortages occur to support organizational needs.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Completion of an approved OR Tech/OB Tech course, preferred. (Completion of an approved technical course can be waived, to allow for in-house training.)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

  • Medical Assistant or CNA certification preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Medical terminology and clerical experience strongly preferred

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate compassionately and effectively.

  • Demonstrated competence with computers.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • The ability to respond to unit/hospital emergencies appropriately, efficiently and in a timely manner

  • Has the physical and mental ability sufficient to accomplish the duties of a Perinatal Technician.

  • Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment.
