Job Vacancy Details Position Start Date January 2026; Position is Open Until Filled Under limited supervision, the Instructor for Biotechnology provides engaging and high-quality instruction while supporting student success through advising, mentorship, and academic engagement. Courses are taught in a variety of formats based on the needs of the department. Faculty at Pitt Community College contribute to departmental and institutional goals through curriculum development, committee service, professional development, and collaboration with colleagues across the college and NCCCS.

This position supports both the Biotechnology Associate in Applied Science degree program and pharmaceutical/biotechnology workforce training initiatives, including BioWork, oral solid dosage manufacturing, aseptic manufacturing, cleanroom practices, cGMP documentation, and other employer- driven training programs. Click Here to Learn More About Our Biotechnology Program What You'll Do Core Essential Duties Teaches assigned courses within the Biotechnology program in various formats (day, evening, online, hybrid, blended) using appropriate instructional methods. Develops and maintains instructional materials including course syllabi, lesson plans, learning objectives, assignments, assignments and other activities.

Evaluates and selects textbooks and instructional resources to support curriculum effectiveness and alignment with industry standards. Assesses student learning through grading, feedback, critiques, and evaluation of coursework and practical assignments. Maintains accurate academic records of required reports such as attendance, grades and end-of-term documentation.

Responds to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and the public in a timely and professional manner. Attends institutional commencement ceremonies as scheduled. Department Specific Duties Provides instruction in continuing education, workforce development, and customized training programs at the Pharmaceutical Services Network Delivers hands-on pharmaceutical manufacturing training in areas such as tablet compression, encapsulation, blending, granulation, coating/spraying processes, cleanroom behavior, gowning, contamination control, aseptic technique, first-air principles, and airflow visualization.

Promotes and enforces safe work practices in laboratory, cleanroom, and manufacturing training environments, including proper PPE use, hazard awareness, safe equipment operation, contamination control, and adherence to institutional safety policies. Student Engagement & Support Advises and supports students in academic planning, registration, career pathways and skills development Assist students with registration, withdrawals, and general academic processes. Supports student success through engagement, accessibility, and equitable practices Institutional & Community Involvement Maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.

What We Are Looking For Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Biotechnology, Biology, or related life science field from an accredited college or university. Extensive knowledge of biotechnology and QC pharmaceutical laboratory techniques Preferred Qualifications Experience with cGMPs, SOPs, GDP, FDA regulated documentation, pharmaceutical manufacturing/quality control, cleanroom operations, aseptic processing, or oral solid dosage manufacturing At least two (2) years of full-time teaching experience At least two (2) years of experience working in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical manufacturing (OSD) or pharmaceutical quality control laboratory setting Experience delivering workforce training, customized industry training, continuing education, or hands-on technical training.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrated discipline expertise, along with appropriate education, experience, and credentials Understanding of community college mission, adult learning theories (andragogy), and strategies to support underprepared or non-traditional students. Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) and multimedia classroom tools Excellent oral and written communication skills to articulate concepts clearly and manage positive, professional relationships with students, faculty, and administration. Ability to foster an inclusive, culturally responsive learning environment and teach students from varying socio-economic and language backgrounds

Capacity to multi-task, manage administrative tasks (grading, scheduling), and adapt readily to changing institutional procedures or protocols. Working knowledge of biotechnology laboratory practices, laboratory safety, instructional methods, student supervision, and applied technical training. Knowledge of cGMP, GDP, SOPs, batch records, contamination control, cleanroom behavior, and FDA-regulated manufacturing concepts.

Ability to safely operate and instruct others in the use of laboratory and manufacturing training equipment. Additional Information Work Environment: Work is performed in a variety of environments including, but not limited to, virtual, classroom, laboratory, on campus and off campus locations. Work locations are equipped with standard instructional technology.

Instructor positions require frequent interaction with students, faculty, and staff. Occasional travel may be required for professional development, off-campus instruction, or college-related events. Based on the academic discipline, work environments may include exposure to heat, noise, dust, machinery, chemicals, etc.

Ability to concentrate, focus, and convey complex subject matter effectively, as well as make rapid, logical decisions. Ability to travel between campus locations or external sites as needed. NOTE: Technical Education and Health Science disciplines require the additional ability to: Frequently lift or carry up to 50-70 pounds Perform extended periods of bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or climbing Wear specialized safety gear and withstand varied environmental conditions Working Hours: Full-Time, 12 month, faculty position.

Posted office hours and semester schedule is required and should be sufficient to fulfill all duties, professional obligations, and meet the needs of the college. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for outreach activities, program support or professional development.
