Biopharma Sales Executive - San Francisco
About the Role
The Biopharma Sales Executive will drive growth across biopharma accounts in North America. Acting as a technical sales specialist, this individual will collaborate with regional sales teams to identify new buying centers, expand existing relationships, and win complex, high-value opportunities.
The role will engage customers across R&D laboratories, core facilities, clinical research organizations, and biopharma manufacturing environments. It will also contribute to the broader commercial strategy for the biopharma segment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own and execute deal strategy for biopharma accounts across the region, including opportunities with national or global scope, by developing account plans, mapping stakeholders and influence networks, identifying whitespace, and using technical selling to advance strategic applications and drive revenue growth.
  • Engage in outbound sales activities to discover new opportunities across functions, therapeutic areas, and application workflows.
  • Expand Oxford Nanopore's footprint within underpenetrated biopharma accounts by engaging new teams and decision-makers and advancing applications across R&D, analytical development, and quality control, including mRNA QC, plasmid sequencing, cell line characterization, and microbial applications.
  • Deliver high-impact technical presentations, workshops, and seminars that translate complex scientific workflows into clear business and drug development value for customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Partner cross-functionally with technical applications, technical support, product management, marketing, and other internal teams to strengthen biopharma selling capabilities and advance strategic initiatives in new application areas.
  • Build and lead customer and KOL relationships across the biopharma market, establishing trusted advisor status with scientific, operational, procurement, and executive stakeholders while representing Oxford Nanopore at trade shows, conventions, and sales meetings.
  • Handle administrative duties as assigned: monitoring expenses to budget (free goods / samples), timely administrative and call reporting, funnel and competitive data entries, use and maintenance of Company assets and adhering to OHSA and Universal Lab precautions, as applicable, and in accordance with Nanopore Company policy.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 to 7+ years of field-based commercial experience within biotechnology, genomics, diagnostics, life sciences tools, or laboratory markets.
  • Proven experience selling capital equipment, scientific instruments, or other complex technical solutions.
  • Experience with NGS, sequencing applications, or related technologies.
  • Proven success using a consultative sales approach to lead complex, multi-stakeholder opportunities.
  • Experience working with biopharma, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, CRO, or advanced research customers.
  • Strong technical presentation, account planning, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and work effectively within a matrixed organization.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage sales activity and forecasts.
  • Located in San Francisco/ Bay Area, CA and have willingness to travel as required.

The salary for this role is between $175,000 and $200,000 USD. The salary offered will reflect the skills and experience of the candidate. Certain roles within ONT are eligible for annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance.
