Position Summary

The Department of Physiology and Pharmacology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia is expanding our teaching faculty to meet the needs of our growing educational programs. We seek an energetic and innovative educator to teach upper-level undergraduate students in our new Biomedical Physiology program. The position involves teaching up to three 3-credit hour courses per academic term, developing new course materials, supervising teaching assistants, and potentially contributing to undergraduate program administration and the teaching missions of graduate and veterinary medicine programs. The role requires high autonomy and collaboration with students and faculty.

Responsibilities
  • Teach up to three 3-credit hour courses per academic term.
  • Participate in the development of new course materials.
  • Supervise teaching assistants.
  • Contribute to undergraduate program administration and the teaching missions of graduate and veterinary medicine programs.
  • Interact with students and CVM faculty and staff.
  • Make decisions impacting student learning and the program.
  • Maintain a high level of autonomy.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in the field (PhD, DVM, MD/DO, DDS/DMD, PharmD, OD, etc.) or, for certain fields, a minimum of a Masterโ€™s degree.
Additional Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Minimum one year of experience teaching physiology at undergraduate, graduate, or professional school level.
  • For candidates without a terminal degree required for the Lecturer rank, documentation of exceptional accomplishments in a discipline area related to the positionโ€™s responsibilities and approval for a terminal degree exception before hire.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
  • Evidence of teaching excellence using active learning methods in both small and large group settings.
  • Preference given to candidates with demonstrated ability to teach multiple areas of physiology and in physiology teaching laboratories; ability to teach pathophysiology or pharmacology also desirable.
  • For candidates in fields requiring a Masterโ€™s degree, preference given to those with a doctoral degree appropriate to the field.
Physical Demands

Extended periods of standing or sitting, vocal strain from talking, moderate physical activity such as walking, reaching, and occasional lifting of materials.
