Job Summary: Biomedical Equipment Technician installs, maintains, tests, and repairs clinical equipment in addition to helping Facility staff troubleshoot technical issues. The position works under the Facilities Manager to achieve department and organizational goals.  

The Biomedical Equipment Technician must be able to perform hands-on operations and maintenance tasks successfully, while meeting all company standards for organization and sustainable operations. The Biomedical Equipment Technician is required to demonstrate the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demands at multiple sites across Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center, while providing excellent customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:    

    Perform all phases of scheduled and corrective repairs of medical and dental equipment.
    Uphold infection control standards
    Perform asset accounting, equipment installation, and de-installation of medical and dental equipment.
    Assist the Facilities Department in troubleshooting non-clinical equipment.
    Provide project support on remodels, expansions, and new construction.
    Responsible for documenting the results of all inspections, maintenance, and tests.
    Evaluate equipment for repair, replacement, or upgrade.
    Assist with making a medical and dental equipment budget.
    Maintain facilities tools, equipment and materials in good order and keep an active inventory of facilities assets
    Maintain inventory of supplies, tools, VGMHC property
    Handle protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
    Perform other duties as assigned.

HIPAA Requirements:
The position may have access to PHI to repair and maintain machines. Applying the minimum necessary standard of HIPAA, the designated record sets to which this employee will have access include all sections of the dental and medical record, patient demographic information in the practice management system, incoming records, reports, results, consultations, etc.

Education and Experience Required
    Associates degree or applicable trade license/certification; equivalent combinations of education and extensive work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered
    Minimum five (5) years experience in technical repair 
    Minimum five (5) years experience service vendor management
    Familiarity with regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission and OSHA
    Valid Oregon driver's license, reliable transportation, safe driving record and insurance coverage required

Desired Attributes
    Experience in the healthcare industry preferred
    Experience working with diverse populations
    Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English spoken and written) preferred.

Working Environment/Physical Hazards
    Work in well-lighted and ventilated environments, usual office environment
    Travel is limited but may be required, occasional evenings or weekends.
    Good driving record with insurance or ability to provide alternative transportation necessary. 
    Outdoors (10%).  Requires travel to various locations and working flexible hours.
    Indoors (90%). Visiting various sites is required to provide in-clinic support.

Working Environment/Physical Hazards:
    Work in a well-lighted, ventilated environment
    Occasional possible exposure to blood borne pathogens and potentially hazardous chemicals.

Equipment Used:
    Computer: Word processing and database programs, internet, e-mail
    Telephone, fax, copier, scanner, printer

Immunization:
Staff members must meet immunization requirements as stated in VGMHC's immunization policy and state and federal guidelines.
