Job description
SUMMARY:
Provides overall strategic, operational, financial, and clinical administrative leadership for Imaging Services at Tucson Medical Center. Responsible for directing hospital-based diagnostic and interventional imaging operations, including radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, ultrasound, mammography, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology, imaging support functions, and related outpatient imaging services as assigned. Ensures safe, timely, patient-centered, high-quality imaging services through effective leadership of staff, equipment, workflows, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, radiation safety practices, quality improvement, patient access, physician collaboration, and service line performance. Serves as the primary operational liaison for radiologists, referring physicians, nursing, clinical departments, support services, vendors, and hospital leadership. Assumes other responsibilities delegated by the Vice President Ancillary Services or designated executive leader.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides operational leadership for all assigned Imaging Services areas, ensuring reliable daily coverage, efficient patient flow, timely completion of exams, and continuity of professional imaging care.
Leads strategic planning, business development, access improvement, technology planning, and service growth initiatives for hospital and outpatient imaging services.
Enhances TMC's market position by improving imaging access, service reliability, referring provider responsiveness, patient experience, and the overall visibility and performance of Imaging Services.
Serves as the primary operational liaison to radiologists, referring physicians, proceduralists, nursing leaders, hospital departments, and community practices that utilize TMC imaging services.
Promotes quality, safety, appropriateness, and efficiency of imaging care through process improvement, data monitoring, standard work, patient safety initiatives, and timely resolution of operational barriers.
Develops and sustains productive relationships with radiologists, medical staff, and referring providers to support clinical collaboration, service recovery, program development, and growth of imaging volumes.
Ensures Imaging Services meets applicable regulatory, accreditation, quality, safety, radiation protection, and performance standards, including standards established by governing bodies and TMC policies.
Responsible for Imaging Services financial performance, operating and capital budgets, productivity, staffing plans, supply management, equipment lifecycle planning, vendor coordination, and performance reporting.
Directs assigned managers, supervisors, technologists, nurses, imaging support staff, clerical staff, and other personnel; accountable for recruitment, retention, orientation, competency, performance management, engagement, and succession planning.
Provides coordination and matrix leadership with Information Technology, Facilities, Biomedical Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Quality, Infection Prevention, Nursing, Emergency Services, Surgery, Oncology, Cardiology, and other departments that impact imaging safety, access, quality, and cost efficiency.
Utilize process improvement in all facets of the operations as necessary to continuously improve the value to the patient.
Represents Imaging Services in TMC operations, leadership forums, medical staff interactions, regulatory surveys, capital planning, emergency preparedness, and organizational performance improvement work.
Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies and standards.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Business or related field; Master's degree preferred. Additional relevant experience may substitute for lack of education upon Supervisory and HR approval.
EXPERIENCE:
Eight (8) years of progressively responsible imaging, radiology, or related clinical operations experience in a hospital or health system setting, including five (5) years in a supervisory or management or management role.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION:
Current applicable clinical license as dictated by assigned imaging modalities and organizational requirements.
ARRT certification or equivalent imaging credential preferred.
Certification in imaging management, healthcare leadership, or regulatory/accreditation-related discipline preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of hospital imaging operations, radiology workflows, diagnostic and interventional imaging modalities, patient access, scheduling, image quality, radiation safety, and current imaging technology.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, extensive financial reports, and/or legal documents.
Ability to respond to sensitive and/or confidential inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to work with concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions and to apply mathematical operations to solve or analyze job-related situations.
Ability to create financial forecasts and budgets.
Ability to identify positive or negative variances from expected outcomes.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
