Job description
The Anesthesia Technician assists the anesthesia providers prior to, during, and following patient procedures in various settings within the Perioperative space at UT MSRH. Individuals in this position are proficient in sterilization, maintenance, packing, and resupplying of anesthesia supplies and equipment in the operating room department, and when available, responds to codes with anesthesia.
Benefits Overview
- Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
- Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
- Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.

Education:
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Provides assistance with the preparation of anesthesia supplies both preoperatively and post operatively by cleaning, maintaining, packaging, ordering, and inventorying of anesthesia supplies.
- Checks and supplies anesthesia machines and carts, checks and replaces anesthetic gases, disassembles used anesthesia equipment, disinfects machines and supply carts, replaces used products and prepares transducers for invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
- Participates as an assistant to Anesthesia providers for procedures in the perioperative spaces for UT MSRH
- Retrieve special anesthesia supplies as anticipated and/or requested by the anesthesia provider
- Ensures anesthesia machines are ready for use to include troubleshooting issues. Perform daily anesthesia equipment inspections to include suction, electrical plugs, gas connections, oxygen, and nitrous oxide cylinders
- Assist anesthesia during intubation and extubation, with dressing and securing IV's, arterial lines, and central lines
- Dispose of contaminated materials and disinfect equipment in accordance with general operating room P&P concerning biohazardous waste
- Provide and set up disposable materials needed for autotransfusion such as blood IV tubing and hot lines
- Clean anesthesia equipment in the perioperative spaces following procedures. Clean, maintain, and package used anesthesia materials and equipment
- Assists in room turnover between procedures, troubleshoot broken equipment and fix as directed by clinical engineering or Biomed.
- Performs other duties as assigned
