Summary:

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for performing inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of medical and non-medical support equipment, including but not limited to medical package tools, generators, and environmental control units. The BMET ensures all work is conducted in compliance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guidance, DoD instructions, applicable regulations, and unit directives. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to established procedures to maintain equipment reliability and operational readiness. 


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Must follow original equipment manufacturer guidance, AFI, regulations and unit direction 
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and calibration of biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations 
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in medical devices, performing necessary repairs or coordinating with vendors for service when required 
  • Maintain detailed service records, documenting repairs, maintenance actions, and performance evaluations 
  • Assist in the installation and configuration of new biomedical equipment, ensuring proper functionality 
  • Life cycle management, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of medical and non-medical support equipment (oxygen generating systems, radiographic diagnostics equipment, life support systems, etc.) 
  • Determines associated support items of equipment in order to perform scheduled services and maintenance repairs and calibration; supply support and provisioning requirements; and training requirements 
  • Prepares necessary support documentation and purchase requisitions of parts
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of biomedical equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting 
  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical systems related to medical devices
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical manuals and safety guidelines 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team
  • Effective communication skills to provide technical support and document service activities 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree 
  • Must have graduated from the DoD Biomedical Maintenance Course or an accredited civilian Biomedical Maintenance Course 
  • Must graduate from the Planmeca digital dental course no later than 12 months after start 
  • Minimum 4 years of field experience in performing and managing: initial inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, life cycle management, and repair of medical equipment within OEM guidance, advanced: diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of medical and non-medical support equipment (oxygen generating systems, radiographic diagnostics equipment, advanced life support systems, etc.) 
  • Must be able to pass client background screening for security clearance 
  • Travel may be required for this position

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferred
