How much do biomechanics professor jobs pay per year?
What is a biomechanics professor?
A Biomechanics Professor is an educator and researcher who specializes in the study of mechanics applied to biological systems, such as human movement and musculoskeletal function. They typically teach courses in biomechanics, kinesiology, and related subjects at a university or college. Their research may involve analyzing motion, designing assistive devices, or improving athletic performance. Professors also mentor students, publish scientific studies, and seek research funding to advance the field.
What are some common responsibilities of a biomechanics professor during a typical semester?
A Biomechanics Professor typically balances teaching undergraduate or graduate courses, designing and conducting original research, and publishing scholarly articles throughout the semester. Many also supervise student projects, mentor graduate assistants, and serve on departmental committees. Collaboration with colleagues in related disciplines, as well as outreach to industry or clinical partners, is also common. This multifaceted role allows for both academic impact and professional growth, making each semester dynamic and rewarding.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the biomechanics professor position, and why are they important?
To thrive as a Biomechanics Professor, you need an advanced degree in biomechanics or a related field, strong research experience, and a proven track record of academic publication and teaching. Familiarity with biomechanical analysis software, motion capture systems, and laboratory equipment is essential, as is staying current with professional affiliations and certifications. Strong communication, mentorship, and collaboration skills help in teaching diverse students, guiding research teams, and working with interdisciplinary colleagues. These skills are crucial for effectively advancing research, delivering high-quality education, and contributing to academic and scientific communities.

Job description
The Department of Orthopaedics is seeking to hire a PhD in Engineering with expertise in experimental orthopaedic biomechanics, mathematical modeling of the mechanical behavior of biological tissue, additive manufacturing, biomaterials and tissue engineering for orthopaedic application to fill a faculty position as Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Research. This individual must be able to bridge the gap between the basic science engineers, community engineers involved in student mentoring, orthopaedic residents/fellows and orthopaedic faculty. The candidate must be able to provide innovative solutions in biomechanical work focused around solving musculoskeletal problems.
This is a unique position requiring a candidate with a proven record of strong scholarly achievements, the ability to successfully lead a multidisciplinary research team, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to cultivate collaborative relationships, and the ability to develop a strong nationally/internationally recognized research program. The candidate would serve to provide mentorship in medical research to the orthopaedic residents and fellows and guide them through their research projects, both clinical and basic science. This individual must have experience in working with residents and fellows and have a clear understanding of the difficulties associated with their busy, fairly inflexible schedules and time constrictions.
