How You'll Make an Impact
A Biologist III leads complex biological assessments, oversees regulatory compliance efforts, and provides technical expertise in natural resource management. A Biologist III focuses on project leadership, community coordination, and mentoring junior staff while ensuring environmental sustainability in our projects. This particular position would be filled by someone who is familiar with flora and fauna in the southeastern US and may have the opportunity to develop into a more specialized biological focus over time that aligns with the individual's specific specialty.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project Leadership
  • Serves as a lead biologist on large-scale environmental projects, overseeing biological assessments and ecological impact studies.

Field Studies and Data Analysis
  • Designs and conducts biological field surveys, habitat assessments, and natural resource monitoring to evaluate project site conditions. This includes surveys for flora and fauna, mapping of suitable habitat for listed species, tree inventory, and invasive weed management plans.

Regulatory Compliance and Permitting
  • Ensures projects adhere to environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and state/local regulations.

Technical Reporting
  • Develops and reviews technical reports, environmental impact assessments, and mitigation plans to support project approvals and permitting.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  • Works closely with engineers, architects, environmental planners, and regulatory agencies to integrate biological considerations into project designs and development plans.

Engagement
  • Communicates findings and recommendations to clients, government agencies, and the public. Experience with public meetings and regulatory consultations with state and federal natural resource agencies.

Mentorship and Supervision
  • Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior biologists, ensuring high-quality environmental assessments and fieldwork.

Business Development Support
  • Assists with proposals, client outreach, and identifying new opportunities for environmental services within the architecture, engineering and construction industry.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience:6+ years' experience in biological fieldwork, environmental consulting, regulatory compliance, and technical leadership in the AEC industry or a related field.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Ecologist, Professional Wetland Scientist, Certified Wildlife Biologist) a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, mentor staff, and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of southeast flora and fauna
  • Masters Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field

Compensation: $68,000-$110,000 annually*
*Final agreed-upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual's related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.
Working Conditions
  • This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
  • This job requires occasional project site visits, based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This job requires the following:
  • Working on a computer, sitting, or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
  • Employees must be capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and Finish lifting up to 35 lbs. unassisted; 50lbs in a team lift (two or more employees).
  • This job requires attending meetings, both in person and virtually as well as speaking on the phone with government agency representatives, members of the public, and others. Speaking, hearing and listening are required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
