Travel requirement - This position is located in South San Francisco.  Minimal travel is required.

Job Description:

The Bioinformatics JAVA Developer will be involved in converting existing Perl CGI applications to Java Web Services.  You will be working with a team to develop and implement an enterprise information management system in a Pharmaceutical environment.

  • Develop code using Perl CGI and JAVA
  • Write and perform Unit Tests
  • Write periodic status / progress reports  
  • Develop simple or complex software functionality but with limited scope
  • Participate in peer reviews of code for coding standards, best practices, functionality, error handling, etc.
  • Write basic SQL queries using relational database concepts and schema design principles
  • Develop simple or complex, dynamic reports 
  • Break complex processes into smaller achievable pieces
  • Integrate scientific applications with other scientific or non-scientific applications
  • Transform client requirements into design solutions
  • Design and develop reusable utility/library software for general use
  • Engineer designs that satisfy current requirements and are extensible for future enhancement while keeping it cost effective for clients
  • Develop very complex / challenging algorithms and software designs having large project scope or large scale 
  • Perform architectural code and design evaluations
  • Write system interfaces using pre-existing middleware
  • Perform simple or complex database optimization


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience using JAVA and Perl CGI - a must 
  • 4 Year degree in an applicable field
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong logical / analytical thinking
  • Ability to  troubleshoot and solve problems
  • At least  4 years of experience in ELN Development
  • 5-8 years of software development experience in Laboratory Informatics projects
  • 5-8 years of experience working in regulated environments

Travel requirement : The job location in San Francisco Bay area.  Travel is minimal.
