Job description

The Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute (ODBI) was recently launched to ignite new directions in research, education, and innovation at the intersection of Engineering and the Life Sciences. ODBI is evolving rapidly, including launching various programs and building physical and programmatic infrastructure. ODBI is seeking a scientific staff member to help run a new microscopy facility. This facility will house roughly a dozen advanced light microscopes, with a particular focus on light microscopy approaches for both imaging and active interfacing with living cells and organisms. The shared facility will be located in a custom-designed laboratory within ODBI's new state-of-the-art building. The facility director will train and assist student and postdoc users of the facility, helping them to design their imaging experiments (e.g. choosing microscopy modalities, sample preparation), maximize quality of imaging data, and consult on image visualization and analysis. The director will facilitate scheduling microscope use, and also connect with vendors to ensure that microscopes are well-maintained. The facility director will also have the opportunity to participate in teaching activities (e.g. for students in the new Bioengineering PhD program), including the design of custom microscopy setups for specific imaging applications. This position will be appointed at the rank of Professional Specialist. The Microscopy Facility Director will interface closely with both internal and external members of the ODBI community. Candidates should have a PhD in a related field. Candidates without a PhD, but with an advanced degree may be considered if they have significant (multiple years) hands-on experience with advanced microscopy applications. Applications are accepted online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/38921 and must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references. This position is subject to the University's background check policy. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University. This position is not eligible for sponsorship of an H-1B visa requiring consular processing. Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. We strongly encourage applications from veterans and others who are often underrepresented in the applicant pool.
Expected Salary Range: $130,000 - $170,000
The University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, work experience, education/training, key skills, market, collective bargaining agreements as applicable, and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The posted salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate for a full-time position; salaries for part-time positions are pro-rated accordingly.
The University also offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees. Please see this link for more information.
