AspectBim Manager HybridBim Coordinator
CertificationsRevit, Navisworks, BIM-related certificationsRevit, BIM certifications often preferred
Work EnvironmentOversees BIM processes, manages teams, collaborates with multiple departmentsSupports BIM models, assists in data management, coordinates between teams
Industry UsageUsed in architecture, engineering, construction firms for project managementCommonly found in project teams supporting BIM implementation

Both roles require BIM certifications and are integral to project success, but the manager role involves more leadership and strategic planning.

What is a BIM manager?

A BIM Manager (Hybrid) is a professional responsible for managing Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes and technologies in both in-office and remote work settings. They oversee the creation, implementation, and maintenance of digital models used throughout the design, construction, and operation phases of building projects. The 'hybrid' aspect refers to their ability to work effectively both on-site and remotely, ensuring collaboration among multidisciplinary teams. BIM Managers help improve project efficiency, accuracy, and coordination by establishing BIM standards and workflows.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a BIM manager?

To thrive as a BIM Manager in a hybrid setting, you need expertise in Building Information Modeling, a background in architecture, engineering, or construction, and often a relevant degree or certification such as Autodesk Certified Professional. Mastery of BIM software like Revit, Navisworks, and collaboration platforms such as BIM 360 is typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills are vital for coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing remote collaboration. These competencies are crucial to ensure project efficiency, model accuracy, and seamless integration across physically and virtually connected teams.

Are Bim Managers Hybrid in demand?

Bim Managers in hybrid roles are increasingly in demand due to the growing adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology and the need for integrated project management. Employers seek professionals skilled in BIM software like Revit and Navisworks, often requiring collaboration across on-site and remote teams, making hybrid positions common in the industry.

How does a BIM manager typically collaborate with on-site and remote teams?

A BIM Manager Hybrid plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between on-site and remote teams by leveraging digital collaboration tools and standardized workflows. They coordinate model updates, run virtual coordination meetings, and ensure that all stakeholders have real-time access to the latest project data. This often involves training team members on BIM protocols and troubleshooting issues as they arise. The hybrid nature of the role requires strong communication skills and adaptability to manage tasks both in-person and remotely, ensuring smooth project progress and minimizing errors.

  • Lead onboarding and training programs related to BIM tools, Revit workflows, cloud collaboration, and project delivery standards.
  • Provide real-time support, troubleshooting, coaching, and technical guidance to project teams.
  • Advise teams on modeling strategies, BIM best practices, tool utilization, and advanced Revit workflows.
  • Administer BIM-related platforms, including project setup, user access, system organization, and cloud-based collaboration environments.
  • Maintain and upgrade BIM content, templates, and standards in response to software updates, code cycles, and changing project requirements.
  • Partner with software providers and internal leaders to ensure design technology tools are implemented and supported effectively.
  • Evaluate current workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, coordination, documentation quality, and team performance.
  • Stay current on emerging BIM technologies, design technology trends, and architecture industry innovation.
  • Support teams working in Dallas while helping create scalable standards that can be applied across multiple projects and offices.

About You as the BIM Manager

  • You have demonstrated experience working in an architecture firm and understand how BIM supports project delivery.
  • You bring advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit and Autodesk collaboration platforms.
  • You have experience developing and managing BIM standards, templates, workflows, and content libraries in a professional architectural environment.
  • You are comfortable teaching, coaching, troubleshooting, and supporting teams with varying levels of technical experience.
  • You can translate complex technical requirements into practical tools, clear standards, and accessible training.
  • You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities with confidence.
  • You are comfortable taking ownership of both strategy and execution.
  • You bring a continuous improvement mindset and enjoy identifying better ways for teams to work.
  • You have a professional degree in Architecture.
  • You bring a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience within an architectural environment.
  • Architectural licensure or progress toward licensure is strongly preferred.
  • You are prepared to commute to a local office three days per week, with additional office visits as needed.
