Job description

Position Summary:
The Quality Team Lead must comply with all plant GMP, SQF Quality and Safety, Food Safety and Bio-Security procedures. The Quality Team Lead will enforce quality assurance, food safety and quality control policies and programs throughout the company to verify that Biery Cheese products are manufactured consistently and in accordance with the customer expectations, regulatory and SQF standards of quality. The individual can work any shift and possible weekends. The Quality Team Lead will oversee the Quality Assurance Technicians during shifts. The Team Lead could make quick decisions on product and facility impact and quality issues. The Team Lead will work in unison with the Quality Manager to ensure compliance requirements are met. This position will be backed up by another Quality Lead or the Quality Manager.
Payrate and Shift:
3rd Shift: Monday - Friday 10:55pm – 7:00am Payrate: $23.50 per hour; Shift differential $2.00
Occasional Mandatory OT including weekends

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the Quality Assurance Technicians. Train, coaches, mentors, empowers and develops good GMP practices with all team members.
  • Assist in the Quality review/evaluation including hold/release of all product types (i.e. cheese, labels, film, chemicals, ingredients, etc...)
  • Assist in sampling and release of bulks and finished goods in a timely manner.
  • Reviews and inputs nutritional information from COAs into E21.
  • Review All Production and Quality records across all lines in Redzone to ensure compliance and handle all non-compliance and deviations in a swift manner.
  • Documents each occurrence including root cause and Corrective actions
  • Monitors packaging and process cheese manufacturing operations for quality/ Food Safety compliance issues
  • Assist in facilitating the internal Quality Assurance audits. Coordinate, evaluate, and assist in developing action plans and follow up of quality issues.
  • Assist in customer and internally initiated audits. Respond to and develop CAPA for audit observations. Ensure that CAPAs are closed out in a timely manner and resolved.
  • Meet with QA Management team regularly to appraise it of the status of the site’s quality and food safety compliance, including current problems.
  • Engage in on-going communication with customers to resolve outstanding quality issues and ensure customer satisfaction with the Biery Cheese quality systems.
  • Assist in the compliance with internal procedures to ensure that established quality and process procedures are being always followed by the appropriate personnel. Assist in new product development production specification development.

Requirements:
  • A 2yr degree in science related field preferred. Can be waived with equivalent experience. Knowledgeable in HACCP/Food Safety Guidelines.

Work Environment:
The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts which may require special safety precautions working around moving machines in production facilities, protective clothing or gear such as goggles, gloves and shoes may be required. May be able to work in a cold environment.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Ability to use hands/arms to reach, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Ability to work in multiple areas of the plant and may be exposed to wet and humid conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to use distant and peripheral vision, identify and distinguish colors, and adjust focus.
  • May work near moving mechanical parts, high and/or confining places.
