As a business intelligence, or BI, specialist, you help companies find intelligence and information technology solutions to improve operations. Your primary job duties are to assist IT professionals in resolving requests and analyzing metrics in a variety of projects. You may also collect and analyze data for a data warehouse, extract data from databases to share between different systems, and develop methods for database design and validation. To become a BI specialist, you typically need a bachelor’s degree in computer science, business intelligence, or a related field and experience with data warehousing. Additional qualifications include strong technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Certifications are also available for career advancement.
