Property Accountant
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay: $26.00 - $28.36 per hour
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to manage the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of assigned properties. The ideal candidate will apply cash and accrual accounting principles to prepare, review, and maintain accurate financial records while ensuring compliance with company policies and financial regulations. This role also supports accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, forecasting, and client financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all accounting activities and financial reporting for assigned properties.
- Ensure the general ledger, tax records, and financial information are accurate and current.
- Complete month-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and reconcile balance sheets and profit & loss statements.
- Maintain and organize the general ledger and month-end close documentation.
- Review and maintain mortgage, escrow, draw, and management agreements.
- Verify escrow taxes and insurance and process monthly mortgage payments and owner distributions.
- Review and approve accounts payable, deposits, and accounts receivable transactions.
- Maintain financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Assist with annual budget preparation and financial forecasting.
- Support annual client audits.
- Communicate balance sheet explanations and financial information to clients.
- Provide accounting support to operations regarding AP processes and inquiries.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field OR
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience
- Experience with property management or real estate accounting is preferred.
- Experience with Yardi, AppFolio, Entrata, or CYMA is a plus.
