What is a beverage manager?

A beverage manager oversees the selection, purchase, and stocking of beverages at a restaurant or bar. As a beverage manager, your job duties include checking and replenishing storeroom inventory, placing orders with suppliers, and bookkeeping. You may also hire and train staff on proper food and drink preparation, kitchen health and safety techniques, and legal alcoholic beverage service. The career typically requires at least a high school diploma or GED certificate, experience in the food and beverage industry, and on-the-job training. Some employers may prefer candidates with postsecondary education, such as a bachelor’s degree in restaurant and hospitality management. Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a beverage manager?

To thrive as a Beverage Manager, you need expertise in beverage operations, inventory management, and hospitality, often supported by a degree in hospitality or relevant certifications like ServSafe Alcohol. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, beverage ordering software, and compliance regulations is essential. Strong leadership, customer service, and organizational skills help you excel in managing staff and ensuring guest satisfaction. These skills ensure efficient beverage service, cost control, and a positive guest experience in a competitive hospitality environment.

What are some common challenges a beverage manager faces when curating a beverage menu?

Beverage Managers often face the challenge of balancing creativity with profitability when designing a beverage menu. They must consider guest preferences, seasonal availability of ingredients, and cost control, all while ensuring the menu complements the venue's cuisine and brand identity. Additionally, staying updated on industry trends and training staff to execute the menu consistently can be demanding. Successful Beverage Managers collaborate closely with chefs, suppliers, and front-of-house teams to create a memorable and efficient beverage experience.

A Beverage Manager oversees the entire beverage operation, including inventory, staff, and budgets across multiple venues or departments. In contrast, a Bar Supervisor focuses on managing bartenders and daily bar service. Both roles require relevant certifications and industry experience, but the Beverage Manager position typically involves higher-level management duties and strategic planning.

Do you need a degree to be a beverage manager?

A degree is not typically required to become a beverage manager, but relevant experience in hospitality, bartending, or restaurant management is important. Certifications in alcohol service or management can enhance prospects, and strong leadership and customer service skills are essential for success in this role.

Job description

If you're the type of person who takes pride in keeping things running smoothly, enjoys being on your feet, and loves being part of a fast-paced, team-focused environment, this might be your next great opportunity.

We're looking for a Food Runner / Busser / Roll to support our dining team at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. This role is the unsung hero of the front-of-house. You're the extra set of hands every guest-and every server-didn't know they needed, but are grateful to have. This position will work weekends. We have a part-time and a full-time position available.

Please note: Applicants must be at least 21 years old, as this position may involve serving alcohol.

About Bandon Dunes Golf Resort:
Bandon Dunes is a world-class golf resort located on the Oregon Coast near the charming community of Bandon. Guests come to experience golf as it was meant to be at Bandon Dunes' six distinct golf courses. That includes five 18-hole courses, which all rank among the top 16 public courses in the United States, according to Golf Digest. The resort is also home to two 'Courses with a Mission': Bandon Preserve, an award-winning par-3 course, and Shorty's, which opened in 2024. All net proceeds from both courses fund the Bandon Dunes Charitable Foundation, supporting communities along the South Coast of Oregon.

Beyond premier golf, guests delight in various dining options at Bandon Dunes' collection of restaurants. Whether you're looking to enjoy locally sourced, Pacific-Northwest cuisine accompanied by an award-winning wine list or prefer kicking back in a Scottish-style setting with traditional pub fare and local microbrews, there is something for everyone.

Working at Bandon Dunes is a dream for golf fans, outdoor enthusiasts, and hospitality professionals alike. The Bandon Dunes team works together to create trips of a lifetime for our guests. We are passionate stewards of our resort, community, and environment. As an endlessly curious group, we ask questions, share ideas, and always look for a better way. With a hard-working attitude, we help guide our guests through their pure golf experience, immersed in Oregon's natural beauty and away from the demands of daily life.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Running delicious food from the kitchen to tables with care and speed.
  • Knowing the menu inside and out so you can answer questions or help out servers.
  • Keeping the dining room looking sharp-resetting tables, refilling drinks, clearing plates, and making sure service stations are stocked and polished.
  • Supporting the chefs by helping set up the expo line and making dishes look as good as they taste.
  • Pitching in with side work, post-shift cleanup, and anything else that helps the team succeed.
  • Showing up with a positive attitude and treating guests with patience, warmth, and professionalism.
  • Be a team player and take on other tasks as needed, always ready to help wherever needed.
What We're Looking For
  • Quick Problem-Solving: You can handle challenges as they come and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Flexibility: Willing to work nights, weekends, and various shifts to keep things running smoothly.
  • Positive Attitude: A friendly and professional demeanor that stands out in all situations.
  • Required Credentials: To get started, you'll need an Oregon Food Handler's Card, Oregon Liquor Control Commission permit, and a valid Oregon Driver's License. You must also be over 21 to serve alcohol.
Perks and Benefits For Full Time Employees:
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Enjoy a well-rounded benefits package that covers your health, wellness, and financial future.
  • Paid Time Off: Take the time you need to relax and recharge with our PTO plan.
  • Free Golf Privileges: Tee off at some of the most iconic courses in the world with complimentary golf access.
  • Quarterly Incentives: Your hard work doesn't go unnoticed-earn extra rewards with quarterly performance-based incentives.
  • Complimentary Lunch: Stay energized with a complimentary lunch in our Staff Cafe during your shift.
  • Resort Discounts: Save on dining and merchandise throughout the resort.
  • Supportive Work Environment: Be part of a team that supports your growth and success, with opportunities to thrive in a collaborative atmosphere.
  • Career Growth: Take advantage of continuous training and development opportunities to advance your career.
This is an active, on-your-feet kind of job. You'll be moving between the kitchen, dining areas, and patios. You'll be around hot stoves, sharp tools, and fast-moving teams-safety is key.

Ready to roll?
Apply now and bring your hustle, heart, and great attitude to our table. We can't wait to meet you.

At Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
