Job Title: Equipment Operator

Department: Golf Course Maintenance

Reports To: Director of Agronomy & Grounds

Scheduling: Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs require.

Position Summary

The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating specialized golf course maintenance equipment to support the daily care and presentation of the Club's golf courses, practice facilities, and surrounding grounds. This position performs a variety of maintenance tasks while ensuring equipment is operated safely, efficiently, and in accordance with departmental standards.

Working collaboratively with the Director of Agronomy & Grounds and the Golf Course Maintenance team, the Equipment Operator helps maintain exceptional playing conditions by supporting mowing operations, cultural practices, landscape maintenance, irrigation support, and course improvement projects while contributing to an outstanding golf experience for members and guests. 

Essential Responsibilities

Equipment Operations

  • Safely operate a variety of golf course maintenance equipment, including riding mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, aerifiers, topdressers, sprayers, spreaders, rollers, and other specialized turf equipment.
  • Perform daily mowing of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, approaches, and other maintained turf areas as assigned.
  • Operate equipment efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of turf quality and presentation.
  • Follow all equipment operating procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or maintenance needs promptly.

Golf Course Maintenance

  • Perform daily golf course maintenance activities that promote exceptional playing conditions.
  • Assist with aerification, topdressing, overseeding, verticutting, fertilization, and other cultural practices.
  • Maintain bunkers, cart paths, practice facilities, and landscape areas as assigned.
  • Assist with tree care, debris removal, edging, trimming, and general grounds maintenance.
  • Support irrigation repairs and maintenance projects as directed.
  • Help prepare the golf course for tournaments, special events, and daily member play.

Equipment Care

  • Conduct daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections of assigned equipment.
  • Clean, fuel, lubricate, and properly store equipment after each use.
  • Monitor equipment performance and notify supervisors of repair needs.
  • Maintain equipment logs and inspection records as required.
  • Ensure equipment is operated in a safe and responsible manner to maximize equipment life.

Safety & Environmental Stewardship

  • Follow all OSHA, Club, and departmental safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely around members, guests, associates, and contractors.
  • Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Report unsafe working conditions, accidents, or incidents immediately.
  • Support environmentally responsible practices related to turf management, chemical application, water conservation, and equipment operation.

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Groundskeepers, Irrigation Technicians, Horticulturists, Mechanics, and other Golf Course Maintenance associates.
  • Assist fellow associates with daily assignments and special projects.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, safety training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Support Club events, golf tournaments, and seasonal projects as operational needs require.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. 

Physical Requirements

This position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and operating heavy equipment in outdoor environments. Associates must be able to safely lift, carry, and move tools, equipment, materials, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. The position requires frequent exposure to varying weather conditions, heat, humidity, rain, noise, dust, vibration, and uneven terrain. Associates must possess sufficient vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to safely operate maintenance equipment and perform assigned duties. Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs require. Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience operating commercial landscaping, agricultural, golf course, or grounds maintenance equipment preferred.
  • Golf course maintenance or turf management experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment safety and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
