Job description
The QC Manager reports directly to Potawatomi Defense Operations (PDO) Project Manager or his/her designee to assure a conflict of interest does not occur among the productivity, schedule, and the quality/safety objectives of the project. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Work may include: * Work closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and other project personnel to be a resource that readily understands the quality requirements for each definable feature of work. * Effectively communicate the standards of care required for each definable feature of work to the various team members in the project through the use of preparatory, initial, follow-up, and other less formal meetings.
* Ensure proper methodology and procedures are followed to meet requirements in task order. * Provide management and oversight of all contractors assigned regarding quality control. * Responsible for the training and verification of all QC personnel training, documents and inspections/acceptance of work being performed.
* Responsible for relevant quality communications regarding best practices, lessons learned, updates to the field, recent events, Quality Alerts, update on quality incidents and end of project value added summaries. * Draft and review project specific plans, procedures, and manuals; including preparation and distribution of updates. * In coordination with others in Project Management, review shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project drawings, specifications, and change directives.
* Chair and document weekly site QC meetings and provide written minutes as described in project specific contract documents. * Conduct and supervise site inspections. * Create, update, and maintain project specific quality control reports.
* Verify and document that all materials received for the project are in conformance with the approved submittal, are handled and stored appropriately, and are acceptable for use in the project. * Schedule, document the results of, and maintain a log of all code and independent inspections that are required. * Clearly document, correct, and re-inspect all non-conformances prior to acceptance of re-work items.
* Conduct daily inspections and periodically document the inspection process via follow up reports for specific definable features of work to verify that work is proceeding with the contract documents and the approved submittals. (Desired results come from what is inspected, not what is expected.) * Coordinate and document the testing and commissioning of building systems. * Document and distribute pre-punch lists, punch lists, and the completion of these lists.
* Document final inspections, certificates of occupancy and acceptance of the works and various phases thereof. * Maintain the project "as-built" drawings on a daily basis. * Stop work if necessary to resolve matters that affect safety, quality, and/or inhibit the logical progress of work.
* Participate in regularly held meetings involving Potawatomi Defense Operations internal staff and external stake holders, such as Owners, Subcontractors, etc. * Responsible for the overall management, direction, implementation, and improvements of PDO's quality control processes and procedures * Provide monthly report of contractor activity as needed. * Communicate with members of the team on a daily basis.
* Other duties as assigned. Education & KSA Requirements: * B.S. Degree and 15 years of experience or 20 years of relevant construction experience in lieu of education requirements.
* Minimum 10 years' experience in the construction industry with a commercial and/or industrial general contractor engaged in governmental and/or institutional construction. * A demonstrated understanding of construction means and methods associated with commercial and institutional buildings and site work related thereto. * A working knowledge of civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical work.
* High level of proficiency with spreadsheets, email, and other software used in the construction industry. * Current safety credentials include OSHA 30, 1st Aid, and CPR. * The successful candidate must have the current USACE CQM Certificate.
* Ability to work extended field schedule as required. * Proficient with Microsoft Office Products Core Competencies * Self-Motivated- Ability to be internally inspired to perform a task to the best of one's ability using his or her own drive or initiative. * Communication, Oral - Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word.
* Time Management - Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines. * Goal Oriented - Ability to focus on a goal and obtain a pre-determined result. * Accuracy - Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
Working Conditions/Working Environment/Physical Demands: Physical Demands * Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment and other related components. * Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 8 hours. * Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds such as small electrical components, equipment and other materials.
