Summary:

Provides oversight for Behavioral Health services, assuring quality care, compliance with CHRISTUS policies, state and federal guidelines, and CHAP standards of care provided for the Behavioral Health Program. Supports the professional development of clinical staff. The Manager will enhance, implement, and oversee a strategy and process that is data-driven, evidence-based, team-oriented, patient-centered, and collaborative with Medical Staff, with the objective of improving the outcomes of patient care delivery and reducing costs. The position is responsible for budgeting and monitoring all personnel, supplies, and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight of routine departmental functions which includes assessment of staff resources and productivity, assuring appropriate care is provided based on specific patient needs and staff abilities, maximizing referral acceptance
  • Assists in determining proper utilization of service, supplies, and equipment
  • Monitors accuracy of documentation and compliance with data entry deadlines, identifies problems and initiates resolution
  • Participates in complaint resolution
  • Ongoing responsibilities include recruitment of staff and evaluation of staff performance, assuring standards of care are established and maintained
  • Establishes and monitors work improvement plans as needed
  • Assists staff in determining need for changes to the patient's plan of care based on information obtained from supportive services and equipment
  • Effectively serves as a leader and knowledgeable resource for staff
  • Acts as Agency representative with physicians, payor sources, and management
  • Collaborates inter/intra-departmentally to ensure patients receive appropriate care
  • Demonstrates current knowledge of trends in professional practice, Agency policies, state and federal guidelines, and CHAP standards
  • Participates in performance improvement activities
  • Assists in analyzing outcomes, reports, identifying problems and determining appropriate corrective actions
  • Provides/arranges for educational activities as indicated
  • Assists staff in utilization of patient-specific disease management models
  • Supervises RN Team Lead and Behavioral Health Staff
  • Conducts regular meeting with direct reports as well as participates in department meetings on a regular basis to promote professionalism, clinical and service excellence, and leadership development.
  • Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is sensitive to and supportive of the hospitals cultural diversity objectives.
  • Encourages and coordinates medical staff/nursing staff collaborative practice and educational opportunities.
  • Provides service to nursing units and other customers and departments as needed.
  • Promotes a positive work environment for nursing displaying a caring, sensitive approach to others as evidenced by listening, understanding and responding to the needs of patients, colleagues and supervisors.
  • Consults with the Administrative Director of Nursing for Emergency Services concerning issues, needs, and problems as they arise.
  • Uses verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas in a positive, value-sensitive, people-respecting way.

Experience

  • Prior experience in leadership in a Behavioral Health Unit/Department/Hospital
