JOB SUMMARY

WPACES is seeking a high energy, innovative Science Teacher to join our professional community and help meet the developmental and social needs of our students.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create standards-aligned lesson plans from science curriculum for inclusive K-5 classes.
  • Teach using lectures, technology, hands-on learning experiences/experiments and project-based learning.
  • Provide whole group instruction in an inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide small group instruction as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administration on students' needs and progress.
  • Consult with administration and provide guidance to teachers on science instruction.
  • Attend professional development sessions, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to stay abreast of best practices and improve professional competence.
  • Inventory, organize, maintain, distribute and order science materials as needed.
  • Identify the educational needs of students and adapt instructional goals accordingly.
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement to maintain an orderly, well-structured classroom culture.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress.
  • Administer standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine students' strengths and areas of need.
  • Collaborate with staff members to develop interesting, innovative learning experiences.
  • Manage and host the annual science fair.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 2 + years teaching experience as an Elementary Science Teacher
  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from an accredited college or university
  • Must be able to obtain or currently have all background clearances (Federal, PA State, & Child Abuse).
  • Valid PA teaching certificate
  • Strong communication skills
  • In the event that the need arises, you will need to be able to: lift, pull or push up to 15 lbs, walk a standard flight of stairs, or stand or sit for up to 45 minutes.
