Part-Time Private Lesson Instructors – Conservatory of Music
Berkeley Preparatory School is seeking music instructors to provide private lessons, on-campus, on all instruments and voice types. Please note, these teaching opportunities are adjunct positions and will vary based on student interest and demand.
The ideal candidate for any instructional positions must be committed to inspiring and guiding our eager young musicians and will meet the minimum responsibilities and requirements listed below.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide weekly, on-campus, individual instruction to students ranging from beginning through advanced levels, including All-State caliber musicians.
  • Tailor lessons to meet the needs of each student, fostering technical growth, musicality, and independent musicianship.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, ensemble directors, and the Conservatory Directors to support overall student development.
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment that inspires students to achieve their full potential.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pedagogy, and in diverse musical styles, including popular music.
  • Prior experience teaching private lessons to students of varied ability levels and varied musical interests.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualities:
  • Experience preparing students for auditions (e.g., All-State, youth ensembles, college entrance).
  • A collaborative spirit and interest in contributing to a thriving school music community.
Private lessons are generally offered during after-school hours beginning at 3:30p.m. Weekend lessons are also options for those instructors and students who share mutual availability.
