Job description

Under supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Before School Group Leader is responsible for providing a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children during the before-school program. The Group Leader will supervise students, lead age-appropriate activities, support positive behavior, and ensure children are prepared and transitioned smoothly into the school day. This position plays a vital role in creating and maintaining a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to all El Concilio California policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to District and school site policies/procedures to ensure a safe environment for students
  • Supervise up to 20 students during before school program hours, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Enforce program rules and policies to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or incidents and participate in monthly emergency drills.
  • Provide all students necessary equipment and provide instruction on use of materials for safety purposes.
  • Immediately report any suspected child abuse and follow mandated reporting procedures.
  • Lesson plan and organize age-appropriate activities and projects to engage students in constructive and educational pursuits.
  • Actively teach, lead and participate in group activities such as arts and crafts, sports, academic enrichment, and recreational games.
  • Incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) concepts into activities to promote holistic learning.
  • Maintain a clean and organized program space by participating in daily cleanup and general maintenance routines.
  • Maintains physical education equipment (e.g. adapting sporting materials, setting up/taking down game equipment, taking attendance/inventory, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items
  • Provide homework assistance and academic support to students as needed.
  • Collaborate with school staff to align ELO-P activities with classroom learning objectives.
  • Monitor students' progress and provide feedback to help them achieve academic goals.
  • Set clear expectations for behavior and conduct within the program, promoting a positive and respectful atmosphere.
  • Implement appropriate disciplinary measures, when necessary, in accordance with program guidelines and protocols, and promptly communicate any behavioral concerns or students requiring additional support to the Site Supervisor.
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity and diversity, promoting acceptance and understanding among students.
  • Maintain a professional tone and use encouraging, constructive language when interacting with staff and students.
  • Greet parents professionally using verbal acknowledgment and eye contact; promptly relay all parent communication to the Site Supervisor.
  • Maintain clear and respectful communication with students, parents, school personnel, and program administrators.
  • Collaborate with team members to support the development and implementation of program goals, strategies, and initiatives.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and required professional development opportunities.
  • Limit the use of cell phone usage during supervision of students
  • Assist other Group Leaders with coverage during site assignment as needed.
  • Keep accurate information regarding student attendance and progress during activities.
  • Relay any information to After School Program Manager and After School Program Specialist.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

A high school diploma/GED equivalency and 48 semester units is highly preferred; or a high school diploma/GED equivalency and completion of Paraprofessional Exam is required in lieu of 48 semester units.

PHYSICAL DEMAND
