What does a beer distributor do?

A beer distributor is a company or individual responsible for purchasing beer from breweries and delivering it to retailers, bars, restaurants, and other establishments. Their main role is to ensure that a wide variety of beer brands are available to consumers by managing inventory, transportation, and sales logistics. Distributors also handle compliance with state and federal alcohol regulations, marketing support, and sometimes promotional activities for the brands they carry. They serve as an essential link in the supply chain, helping breweries reach a broader market while ensuring quality and timely delivery.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a beer distributor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Beer Distributor, you need knowledge of supply chain logistics, inventory management, and a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or relevant permits. Familiarity with route planning software, handheld inventory scanners, and warehouse management systems is typically required. Strong customer service, time management, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for building client relationships and resolving issues efficiently. These skills ensure timely, accurate deliveries and customer satisfaction in a highly competitive beverage distribution market.

What are some common challenges faced by beer distributors in managing inventory and logistics?

Beer distributors often encounter challenges such as balancing supply with fluctuating demand, maintaining product freshness, and coordinating timely deliveries to various retailers. Managing a diverse portfolio of brands and packaging types can require careful organization and precise inventory tracking. Additionally, distributors must comply with state and federal alcohol regulations, which can impact logistics and delivery schedules. Effective communication with suppliers, drivers, and retailers is essential to ensure smooth operations.

Job Summary

Crown Distributors is Kansas's family-owned beverage distributor, hiring a Class A CDL Delivery Driver for our Salina facility. Local route, no overnights, home every afternoon. We're looking for safe, reliable drivers who take pride in their route and represent the company at every customer. Full-time 4 or 5 day work week depending on route assignment, with a fixed early-morning start (typically 5:00 to 6:00 a.m.); home daily with evenings off. Don't have a CDL yet? We have a paid in-house CDL training program. Apply for our Delivery Trainee role instead.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Route: Operate a Class A CDL tractor-trailer or straight truck on an assigned local route, safely delivering beer, wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages from the warehouse to retail customers on schedule.
  • Serve the Customer: Deliver on the scheduled window with the right product in the right quantity. Rotate the retailer's stock, stock any out-of-stocks at the account, and partner with the sales rep on account needs.
  • Operate Safely: Follow all safety policies and procedures, including pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Steward Equipment: Treat the tractor, trailer, wheeler, and any assigned electric pallet jack like the team, business, and company image depend on it. Keep trucks and trailer clean inside and out.
  • Team Dependability: The team depends on each other. Reliable attendance and efficient route execution keep team resources and support available for everyone.

Rewards

Pay: $53,000 to $66,000 annually depending on experience and route assignment, with guaranteed 40 hours plus 5 hours of overtime every week. Routes are built to about 40 hours, so you finish your route and still get paid for the full 45; any hours beyond 45 earn additional overtime.

  • Bi-weekly pay, plus on-demand pay available through Paylocity.
  • Up to 20 days of paid time off in your first year.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus 401(k) with company match.
  • Free in-house pallet jack certification, completed on the clock.
  • Promotion from within (clear path to Lead, Supervisor, and Manager roles).
  • Military friendly.
