POSITION SPECIFICS
The Department of Animal Science at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a new position; Assistant Teaching Professor of Beef Production. This position is a 36-week, non-tenure line faculty appointment with 50% Teaching and 50% Extension responsibilities and is located on the University Park campus.
RESPONSIBLITIES:
Develop a robust extension program in beef production and management, and scholarly teaching including livestock evaluation. Responsibilities include:
  • Plan, design, implement, and evaluate essential beef production and management educational programming to small and medium sized beef producers and operations converting from dairy to beef, and their employees and related industry representatives, including farm visits, utilizing a variety of methodologies including in-person workshops, online webinars, podcasts, videos, social media posts, print articles, fact sheets and other media as appropriate
  • Contribute articles and programs to the Extension Livestock Team
  • Chair the Pennsylvania Farm Show beef committee
  • Chair the Pennsylvania Bull Test technical committee
  • Coach the undergraduate Livestock Judging Team
  • Teach in the Animal Science undergraduate curriculum, including 424 (Livestock breeding evaluation and selection), 426 (Advanced judging and selection), and all or part of ANSC 309 (beef cattle production and management), 324 (Value determination of meat animals), and/or 429 (Advanced beef cattle production).
  • Develop a new course on livestock handling, including hands-on laboratories at the Animal Science farm facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum M.S. (Ph.D. preferred) in animal science, dairy science, or related discipline with demonstrated accomplishments in teaching, outreach, and/or applied research in beef production and management. The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date. The successful candidate must have outstanding communication skills and be proficient at the scholarship of teaching and outreach. Congeniality and the ability to work cooperatively and engage professionally with our population of faculty, staff, and students, dairy producers and industry leaders is required.
