Join Our Team!
We're looking for an experienced Feedlot Assistant Manager to help with the day-to-day operations of our custom feed yard. Our facility includes a confinement building and open cement and dirt lots, with pen capacities ranging from 65 to 300 head. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows cattle, takes pride in animal care, and wants to be part of a well-run family operation. Most of your time will be spent outdoors, and the role also involves other aspects of our farming operation.
Why You'll Love This Role
As the Feedlot Assistant Manager, you'll:
  • Walking assigned pens daily and monitoring cattle health
  • Pulling and doctoring sick cattle, and administering vaccinations and treatments
  • Processing incoming cattle; assisting with shipping and receiving
  • Mixing the correct feed loads and delivering feed to the correct pens
  • Moving cattle from pen to pen when necessary
  • Draining, cleaning, and maintaining water tanks to ensure the health and well-being of livestock
  • Operating heavy equipment including loaders, skid steers, and tractors with efficiency and skill
  • Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping of yards, equipment, and buildings
  • Identifying and communicating all maintenance needs and concerns
  • Maintaining accurate daily records of feed use, weight gains, and animal health
  • Assisting with grain farming operations (corn, soybeans, alfalfa hay) and other areas of the feedlot and farm as needed
  • Adhering to OSHA and safety procedures, rules, and regulations at all times

What We're Looking For
  • Hands-on cattle experience (feedlot experience strongly preferred)
  • Working knowledge of animal health - recognizing illness, administering treatments, and following vaccination protocols
  • Knowledge of grain farming practices
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Neat and legible handwriting for record keeping

A Plus:
  • CDL (Class A or B)
  • Mechanical and/or welding abilities
  • Equipment operation and maintenance experience

  • Punctual and dependable - at work and working on time
  • A self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude and strong sense of accountability
  • Able to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • A strong verbal communicator - listens well, asks for help or clarification, and responds well to questions

Working Conditions
This position requires:
  • Working in and around cattle and their manure
  • Working outdoors in extreme weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, heat, and cold
  • Vision abilities including distance and depth perception
  • Working extended hours and weekends when needed

Schedule
  • Monday-Friday, generally 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Occasional weekend duties - Sundays are limited to animal health and feeding in the morning only
  • Extended hours during busy seasons; willingness to occasionally work nontraditional hours is preferred
