Job Title: Welding Engineer
Status: Full-time Professional
Annual Salary Range: $68,300 - $129,100
*Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Job Summary
As a Welding Engineer at BPMI, you will work under significant oversight and performs routine technical functions to execute the BPMI mission in areas including but not limited to welding engineering evaluations and analyses, engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks which may include a combination of several functions including the design, fabrication, installation, and refurbishment of equipment. Work may include independent assessments or participating on multi-disciplinary teams, research and development, and on-site supplier assessments.
This position requires knowledge and application of welding engineering techniques, principles, and practices employed in the area of assignment. Individual is responsible to maintain the technical excellence of the Company within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
Essential Duties:
  • Understand project requirements, track progress against schedule and performance goals, and provide regular status updates to management and the design team.
  • Assist with the preparation of welding and process instructions, standards, manuals, and specifications. Provide input to the preparation, follow, and reporting of material development programs.
  • Assist with welding engineer oversight of supplier processing and fabrication procedures.
  • Perform failure analysis on metal components to identify root causes, suggest improvements and develop solutions to prevent future issues.
  • Team with other engineers performing related phases of the technical work to ensure integration of activities and plans.
  • Prepare revisions to technical manuals, reports, or procedures in accordance with NR Program quality standards.
  • Conduct production reviews and quality surveillance; review and approve supplier designs and supporting technical reports on assigned components and equipment; develop and implement methods to improve supplier performance.
  • Assist with in-service inspections and evaluations to ensure high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective equipment.
  • Prepare letters to the Government providing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions or obtaining approval of funding.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Stay current with advancements in the field of welding techniques and technologies. Develop an understanding of component and system interrelationships and expand understanding of pertinent welding processes.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

Preferred Job Requirements:
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 for newer college graduates.
  • Experience in the application of welding in the design and fabrication of equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret welding specifications and standards and the metallurgy of materials to fabricate plant equipment or pressure vessels is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook and other commonly used business applications.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including effective technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with strong attention to detail and deadlines.
