Bechtel adds current and unmatched experience managing and executing large nuclear projects to the team. 

Job Summary:

Implement the safety management program on the project with assistance of the Natrium ESH Manager, Project Management and NS&E ESH Functional Manager. Provides technical oversight of the project's ESH compliance activities for the Kemmerer Unit 1 Power Station through identification and integration of applicable requirements into project designs, subcontract bid specifications, construction plans and schedules and other field execution activities. Works directly with other project-level functional leads (e.g. engineering, construction, subcontracts, procurement, project controls, document controls) to assist them in integrating and/or addressing the applicable ESH requirements in their work products and activities. Coordinates with Natrium ESH Manager, NS&E ESH Functional Manager regarding significant project ESH issues and support needs. #LI-EH1

Major Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates a wide variety of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) disciplines to facilitate implementation of Bechtel's ESH program and ESH Management System, including aiding compliance with Bechtel's ESH standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments 
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities 
  • Maintains ESH databases, inclusive of incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions 
  • Performs statistical analysis of ESH data to identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement and makes recommendations accordingly 
  • Identifies and coordinates implementation of unique software systems and electronic innovation used by ESH personnel 
  • Leads teams in conducting risk assessment, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring in response to ESH issues 
  • Prepares communications, writes reports, and prepares documents for program execution and records retention 
  • Coordinates incident notifications, leads investigations, and prepares incident investigation reports 
  • Recommends and implements improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential  
  • Participates in and may lead employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.  
  • Coordinates ESH recognition programs 
  • Researches moderately complex issues and provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice 
  • Provides support to ESH field and office personnel, inclusive of all ESH disciplines 
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in life sciences (e.g., biology, public health) or physical sciences (e.g., physics, chemistry), or safety/industrial engineering from an accredited college or university and 5-8 years of related experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience. 
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Advanced knowledge in the field of science, safety/industrial engineering, or related discipline.  
  • Knowledge of safety programs/engineering systems, principles, and methodologies.  
  • Knowledge of national and international safety laws/regulations and regulatory agencies & regulatory requirements and responsibilities, industry standards/current practices for  ESH, and best management practices for minimizing potential  ESH risks during project execution.  
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction systems, methods, and work processes.  
  • Knowledge of construction planning, estimating, procedures, and execution.  
  • Prior practical work experience in office settings (e.g., managing  ESH programs, budgets, and staff) and field locations (e.g., construction execution and/or operating facilities) performing the responsibilities listed above.  
  • Experience in managing and/or providing technical oversight of  ESH subcontractors or consultants.  
  • Experience in  ESH assessments/inspection during construction.  
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials and physical risks and the mechanisms to mitigate them.  
  • Skilled in oral and written communication.  
  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in very small and/or confined spaces.   
  • Prior experience in Nuclear construction, operations or modification work packages
  • Knowledge of Bechtel standard computer applications
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s organization structure, functions, and administrative procedures.  
  • Must possess legal right to work in US without sponsorship.  
  • Must be able to pass nuclear security screening requirements and be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear power facility.
