Job description


Performs daily production, serving, and cleaning duties for the school lunch program. Meets and greets students and assists them with making healthy menu selections. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Performs food service production and operational tasks as assigned by the school's site manager.
  • Assists in the preparation of foods using standardized recipes and menus, and portion controls in accordance with work production standards.
  • Sets up food on serving lines and/or steam tables and serves meals or meal components.
  • Conducts the cashiering function in accordance with established financial and accountability procedures.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all equipment and work areas including the kitchen floors, walk-in refrigerators, and storage areas. Follows established Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures and food safety standards.
  • Assists with maintaining production records, HACCP logs, and satellite control sheets.
  • Properly stores food and supplies.
  • Transports food from the base complex to the receiving school, if required.
  • Reports to any site in the complex as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience:
  • High school diploma or appropriate equivalent is preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in the field of food service is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of school system's safety, procedural, and policy guidelines, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Ability to understand and speak English.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with teachers, students, and other employees.
  • Good human relations and communications skills.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • The work of this class is performed in a kitchen and cafeteria environment. Duties require frequent lifting and carrying including objects up to 50 pounds, the ability to bend and kneel on a regular basis, and the ability to stand for three hours or more consecutively. Also requires the ability to withstand extreme temperatures of hot and cold.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Annual completion of continuing education/training in accordance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Professional Standards for School Nutrition Employees.
This class specification defines the types of duties and level of difficulty of work required of positions in this title. It shall not be held to exclude duties not mentioned nor limit the right of management to assign work to employees.
GRADE: Grade 01 - 10 Month AFSCME Pay Scale
SALARY: $15.30 - $20.95 (Hourly Base Pay Scale for All Employees Represented by AFSCME)

OTHER COMPENSATION:

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Retirement: Eligible for the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System.
