SUMMARY


Donovan-Hill Group (DHG) is seeking an experienced and motivated Survey CAD Technician to join our growing Geomatics team in Pensacola, Florida. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects including transportation, municipal infrastructure, utilities, commercial development, federal facilities, coastal engineering, and large-scale land development throughout the Gulf Coast Region.


The Survey CAD Technician is responsible for transforming field-collected survey data into accurate, high-quality mapping and design deliverables using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other geospatial software. Working closely with Professional Surveyors, project managers, field crews, UAV pilots, and LiDAR specialists, this position plays a critical role in delivering precise survey products that support engineering design, permitting, construction, and land development projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS Land Title, route, construction, utility, hydrographic, and as-built survey drawings utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Process conventional survey, GNSS, UAV, terrestrial laser scanning, and hydrographic survey data into accurate digital mapping products.
  • Develop digital terrain models (DTMs), surface models, contours, profiles, cross sections, and other survey deliverables required for engineering design and construction.
  • Perform research of deeds, plats, easements, rights-of-way, survey records, control information, and other public records necessary for project completion.
  • Prepare legal descriptions, easement exhibits, sketches, and supporting survey documentation under the direction of a Professional Surveyor.
  • Collaborate daily with field personnel to review field data, resolve discrepancies, improve field-to-office communication, and maintain efficient project workflows.
  • Participate in periodic field assignments to maintain familiarity with survey equipment, field procedures, and data collection methodologies.
  • Assist with processing and quality control of UAV imagery, LiDAR point clouds, terrestrial laser scans, and emerging geospatial technologies.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews to ensure survey deliverables meet company standards, client requirements, and applicable surveying standards.
  • Maintain organized electronic project files, documentation, and data management systems in accordance with DHG procedures.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects while meeting established schedules, budgets, and quality expectations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by assisting in the development and maintenance of CAD standards, templates, feature coding libraries, and drafting procedures.
Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D with demonstrated experience preparing survey deliverables from project inception through final production.
  • Working knowledge of boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, construction, and utility surveying principles.
  • Experience processing conventional survey, GNSS, LiDAR, UAV, terrestrial laser scanning, or hydrographic survey data.
  • Ability to interpret deeds, plats, legal descriptions, easements, right-of-way maps, construction plans, and survey records.
  • Experience preparing legal descriptions and accompanying exhibits is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Trimble Business Center, LP360, and similar geospatial software is desirable.
  • Previous field survey experience and an understanding of survey equipment, data collection methods, and field procedures are strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments, meet project deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work while maintaining a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Willingness to pursue continuing education, professional certifications, and training in emerging surveying and geospatial technologies.
