Job description

Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Laboratory Technician may perform laboratory procedures across the major area of the laboratory, or concentrate activity in one area such as blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, or microbiology. Under the direction of a qualified supervisor, a technician's duties include the following: follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis. Performs assigned analytical tests or procedures that require limited independent judgment. Recognizes factors that affect measurement and results and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols. Operates instruments within the cope of training, utilizing established protocols and quality control checks. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and notifies appropriate supervisory personnel. Communicates information such as test results, normal ranges and specimen requirements to authorized sources. Performs routine quality control and maintains accurate records. Demonstrates laboratory technical skills to new employees and students.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • STANDARD I Job Knowledge/Productivity/Leadership Completes position responsibilities by following established guidelines & protocols within the appropriate time frame.
  • STANDARD II Communication/Citizenship/Customer Relations Demonstrates good skills in all forms of communication. Works well with others in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
  • STANDARD III Education/Development/Initiative Maintains education and development appropriate for position.
  • STANDARD IV Hospital/Department Policies & Procedures Adheres to established hospital and department guidelines & protocols. Supports hospital mission, vision and values.
  • STANDARD V Position Performance Criteria/Essential Job Functions Performs position specific job functions at an acceptable level.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Associate Degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Medical Laboratory Technology/Clinical Laboratory Technology (MLT/CLT) from an accredited institution.
  • Or be qualified under CLIA guidelines for MLT/CLT.
  • MLT (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
