Job description

Emergency Department Unit Secretary

The Emergency Department Unit Secretary serves as a vital member of the healthcare team, supporting nurses, physicians, patients, and families through coordination of unit activities and administrative operations. In this role, you'll perform clerical, receptionist, and communication duties that help ensure efficient patient care and a positive experience for everyone on the unit.

A Day in the Life of a Unit Secretary, you'll help keep the department running smoothly by answering phones, greeting and assisting patients and visitors, and communicating with clinical staff. You'll accurately enter and process medical orders, maintain patient records, schedule tests and procedures, and ensure important information is communicated promptly to the appropriate team members.

Throughout the day, you'll work closely with nurses, physicians, and other departments while balancing multiple priorities. You'll help coordinate patient care activities, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to a safe, organized, and professional environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Basic computer and data entry skills
  • Strong communication and customer service abilities
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare staff
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire
