What are Batemen and what do they do?

A Bateman typically refers to a person who operates or manages a batte, which is an old term for a type of boat or barge, or sometimes the person responsible for overseeing the use and maintenance of such vessels. In some regions, especially in historical or traditional contexts, a Bateman may have been involved in ferrying goods or people across rivers. Today, the term is uncommon and may also refer to a surname rather than a specific job. If you are referring to a specific industry or context, the responsibilities of a Bateman may vary accordingly.
